I have lockx.exe on my computer. It's in WINDOWS/system32 , and whenever I start my computer it asks if I would like to run this program. I click cancel, and when I ran virus scans, nothing showed up. Recently my computer began restarting all on it's own. I went into safe mode, restorted the computer to a few days before hand and ran mulitiple virus scan/spyware scans. Everything seems to be fine right now.
Your help is really appreciated.

Hi Starcourt and welcome to the Geeks to Go Forums.

My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your log.

1. Please DELETE your current HJT program from its present location, if already installed.

2. Download and run the following HijackThis autoinstall program from Here . Please choose the default location of C:\Program Files\ as the destination. HJT needs to be in its own folder so that the program itself isn't deleted by accident. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!
  • Run HijackThis
  • Click SCAN and SAVE LOG. (a notepad window will open with the log in it when you click Save Log) (Ctrl-A to'select all', Ctrl-C to 'copy')
  • POST the log into this thread using 'Add Reply' (Ctrl-V to 'paste')

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS MOST OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO THE FUNCTION OF YOUR COMPUTER

Regards,

Trevuren

A. I want you to download and run a free trial version of an anti-trojan program called: Trojan Hunter . Let it scan your whole system and remove anything it finds.

REBOOT your system.

    • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
    • The program will prompt you to update click the OK button
    • The program will now go to the main screen
  • You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
    • On the left hand side of the main screen click update

Since I ran AIMifx, the computer has no longer been trying to run lockx.exe at startup, but about an hour ago, the computer again restarted of its own accord and I was informed that Microsoft experienced a serious error, so I am left to suppose not everything is fixed. Sorry it took so long, the scan alone took about 40 minutes to do.

Your log looks clear. If you think there is still malware present,:

A. Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner

Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Anti-Virus Web Scanner

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
    Standard
    • Scan Options:
    Scan Archives
    Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer
  • This will program will start and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
    • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information into your next post.
B. If you are still experiencing problems with your system as previously described, we should check the integrity of the operating system:

1. Please go to Start -> Run -> type cmd and press Enter.

2. At the command prompt type sfc /scannow, making sure to put a space between the "c" and the slash, and then press Enter. This will run the System File Checker.

3. Follow the prompts, and insert your Windows installation CD if requested.

4. Then please REBOOT your computer.

C. Finally, please post a fresh HJT log and any comments you have about how your system is running.

Regards,

Trevuren

My system is running fine at the moment. When I ran the online scan, however, it told me I have at least 9 viruses on my computer. None of the other programs I've used to scan, not even Norton Anit-Virus, has said I have any viruses. Also, lockx.exe seems to be gone because it doesn't try to start when I boot up my computer. Here are my scans:

Most of the items found are in your system restore. Your restore cache will be purged during the final cleanup procedures.

1. Please update your Ewido definitions.

2. Boot into Safe Mode and run Ewido

3. Keep the log

4. Reboot back into Normal Windows Mode

5. Post your Ewido log plus any comments about suspected or know malware activity remaining on your system

My computer's functioning fine except for when it restarted last night. The only thing that worries me is the viruses the previous scan said I had...as long as they're all nothing, it's all good I suppose. ^^;

If you are really that concerned, and you have a right to be :

1.. Please download the 30-day free trial of Kaspersky anti virus

. Install the program
. Run the definition update module.
. Scan your whole system and let the program remove anything it wants.

2. When finished, REBOOT your system

3. Post the log

Thanks. I'm going to try that. As of now, however, the program doesn't want to download. I got the trial and the e-mail and all that, it's just not...downloading. I will post back up once I get it running. Thank you!
