I did have a couple of problems. When I went into safe mode, the computer never let me do anything, so I had to run the fix in regular mode.

Also Hijack This never opened on it's own after Vundo fix, so I had to turn off, turn back on, and then run Hijack This.

What should I do next?

The infection is in there more than once. Let's do it again. Can you reboot in normal mode with internet connection? If not, do it in normal mode.

HijackThis is still being run from a temporary folder.
Please create a new folder for it and place the program into that new folder.

***
  • Open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
  • You will first be presented with a warning and a list of forums to seek help at.
    it should look like this

    VundoFix V2.1 by Atri
By using VundoFix you agree that you are doing so at your own risk
This list of forums is provided as an example of where to go to obtain help!!

    Press enter to continue....

  • At this point press enter one time.
  • Next you will see:

Type in the filepath as instructed by the forum staff
Then Press Enter, Then F6, Then Enter Again to continue with the fix.

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddayy.dll
  • Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.
  • Next you will see:

Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum staff
Then Press Enter, Then F6, Then Enter Again to continue with the fix.

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):C:\WINDOWS\system32\yyadd.*
  • Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.
  • The fix will run then HijackThis will open.
  • In HijackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {52B1DFC7-AAFC-4362-B103-868B0683C697} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddayy.dll

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UserFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -u

    O20 - Winlogon Notify: ddayy - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddayy.dll
  • After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis and Press any key to Force a reboot of your computer.
  • Pressing any key will cause a "Blue Screen of Death" this is normal, do not worry!
  • Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below. If it doesn't reboot on it's own, please do it yourself.

You're not doing anything wrong. It's just multiple infections and we didn't remove what Panda found yet.

Remove this folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\Chris\Favorites\Health

Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. Place the following lines (complete paths) in bold in the "Full Path of File to Delete" box in Killbox, and click the red button with the white X on it after each

C:\Documents and Settings\Chris\Favorites\SHOPPING\eBay.url
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\awvts.dll

For these files, put a mark next to "Delete on Reboot". Copy and paste each file into the file name box, then click the red button with the X after each. It will ask you if you want to reboot each time you click it, answer NO until after you've pasted the last file name, at which time you should answer Yes.
Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

***

One remaining, let's see if we can remove it the easy way.
  • Open HijackThis
  • Click on the configure button on the bottom right
  • Click on the tab "Misc Tools"
  • Click on the Box that says "Uninstall Manager"
  • Click on the button "Save list"
  • Copy and past the List from notepad into your post

No need to rerun Panda, it will find the Wintools entry again.

If you feel comfortabel with it, we can remove them from the Registry.

First, let's make a backup for the Registry, just incase..
Go to start - run.
type 'regedit' and press enter.
The Registry will appear.
Choose 'file' - 'export' from the menu.
A new window will appear, letting you choose where to safe the file.
Down below put a check to 'all'
Then safe the backup somewhere you can find it again if we need it (let's say the desktop).

***

Download and install Registrar Lite.

Let's go search the Registry for Wintools
Please be very carefull what you do. A corrupt Registry is a broken down machine.

Doubleclick the file you just downloaded.
An Installshield will appear. Follow the instructions.

Go to start - programs - RegistrarLite - Registrar Lite
Since it's the first time you open it, the program will finish the installation.

Press the magnifying glass
In the box 'text to search for' type
wintools
press 'enter'. The program will search the Registry looking for items.

When it's done searching you will see a window with rows.
Select all rows and right-click. Choose delete - key and values.

Close Registrar Lite when you are done.

Reboot and rescan using Panda. It should come clean now.

:tazz:
Download this tool to the desktop.

Run the tool.

Reboot.

You may want to check what Panda thinks.

I ran the tool, and it didn't find anything.

I'm rerunning Panda and it's still finding stuff. (so far 2 spyware).

Any other suggestions? I feel like a failure!

It's not you. It may still be a false positive.

You did update and run AdAware SE 1.06 and Spybot S&D 1.4? Do them now if you didn't.

if that doesn't help:

Please download, install, and update the free version of Ewido trojan scanner:
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
  • Run Ewido --- When you run it for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  • From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
  • After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
  • Exit Ewido. DO NOT scan yet.
***

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
http://www.pchell.co.../safemode.shtml

***

Next, run Ewido again.
  • Click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on Complete System Scan. This scan can take quite a while to run.
  • If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. We have been finding some cases of false positives with the new version of Ewido, so we need to step through the fixes one-by-one. If Ewido finds something that you KNOW is legitimate (for example, parts of AVG Antivirus, pcAnywhere and the game "Risk" have been flagged), select "none" as the action. DO NOT check "Perform action with all infections". If you are unsure of an entry, select "none" for the time being. I'll see that in the log you will post later and let you know if ewido needs to be run again.
  • When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Make sure you know where to find this file again.

Every tool has it's own extra's, so they also find and cure different things. Let me know what's left. Do post me the Ewido log.

I want to thank you so much.

One more question. To keep this from happening again, which applications should I run and how often? I have adaware, and norton, and also all of the applications you had me download today. Can you give me an idea of which ones I should run and when to keep it clean?
