After uninstalling antivirus programs, the Printer icon is shaded, the CD Drive is not displayed at all, and DSL to internet has quit! I did this to my son's pc- can it be saved? Any advice would be appreciated.
Peace be with you

Try CD GONE Patch here

http://www.geekstogo...action=cat&id=1

See if System restore helps

http://support.micro...kb;en-us;304449

Use the PC you are on to download any files you need

You could also boot the PC, keep tapping the delete key until you get options, set the boot priority to CD ROM Drive then hard drive, press F10 to save changes, insert the XP CD, type Y to confirm changes and press enter, follow the instructions here

Everything is OK!
Didn't need the CDGone program after all. The 3.5 emergency start up disk was found.
Thanks again, Keith, for the assistance- in a way you still helped; my frame of mind was more open to solutions after getting your input.
Now, I need to get my machine up to speed. I posted on the XP forum with the log file.
Peace be with you.
