Hi People,

I was thinking, you know how we were talking about "Off Topic" and how its a pretty huge threads on other sites? Well, I noticced that our "Community" folder containing the threads is almost or on the bottom.......(cant remember now, lol ) but anyway I think a lot more people would see it and they would prob post more often while waiitng to see if they get thier HJT Logs answered if it were in a more noticeable spot, .....ya think?.....comments? :tazz: ?

Yeah,

I think that is a good idea... But besides moving the OFF TOPIC forum, I would actually suggest maybe having it in our signature or stating it when replying to a topic before fixing there issue...

Dunno.... just my 1 cent of intelligence this early in the morning ;)

Thats not a bad idea either CraftyGirl. I am re-reading my post and its AMAZING hw you can post something and think you said "whatever" and you then re-read it and its not what you meant or intended right?...... Lol, so Ok, what I meant was................ Our biggest thread by far is the HijackThis thread for obvious reasons, and so with that in mind I was thinking we could pull in many more people to our forums if the Offtopics and site suggestions were placed near the top or right under the HJT thread where it would be seen and you know how anxious people are when they first post and they probably pop in and out waiting to be answered so I believe many would prob join our Off-Topic discussion with it in a viewable spot, there NOW I hope I answered or made myself plain! :tazz:

NEXT SUGGESTION:<s>

1: I was thinking that sometimes when we need a question answered in a hurry or while we are working on a live log that it may be a really good idea that we have a "Kwiq-Questions" folder in GeekU, this way when anyone with experience is around they can see what if any problems that "Trainees" are having or questions that we may want answered and in passing they could just answer these for us quickly and all the questions could be put into one spot all nice and centralized, is that a good idea?

2:
I would also say that maybe in the GeekU we should or could offer a link right into one of our sister sites that offer a process/pathway Utility for qwik results?

3: I had asked before but this was asked in a thread where it probably got buried so Ill try it here..............its a double question.

3A: Is there a quick way to know the questionable processes like "wow.exe" or "services.exe" like a check to the pathway or something? I hope this is making sense, like when we think something may be bad but its also a real process will we see 2 of them in the processes running on the system and

3B: With this in mind wouldnt a pathway librabry make sense?

I was told to ask questions and so Im asking!! lol, Im never afraid to learn and I figure its the only way right? This thread is gonna grow so please take a look now and again..unless of course we get that subfolder(s) in GeekU! :tazz:

Oh and BTW, I am checking the Off-Topic hits, the numbes dont sem too bad but a little further insight (all my one I admit so it could be seriously near sighted at that! ) is do you think it would make sense to maybe take the more active threads or subfolders if you prefer and to maybe put them in order like HJT where we get the most action or replies and then I think Hardware.......and like that? Of course I still hold that the Off Topic should be tried a little higher so it has more visibility but again its only what I think and just an idea.

I like your ideas and way of thinking. :tazz: I agree with the moving the "Off Topic" forum up on the list. It would definitely be more noticed further up the page. I think the only reason it's not up there is the fact that everything seems sort of grouped by category and "Off Topic" doesn't fit, but it sounds like a good idea to work on.

For the qwik responses thing do you mean like if it's urgent to respond to the user faster than normal? Cuz I know there are times when I know a user's pc is rebooting on it's own and I need to respond before that happens because the files morph.

3A: Is there a quick way to know the questionable processes like "wow.exe" or "services.exe" like a check to the pathway or something? I hope this is making sense, like when we think something may be bad but its also a real process will we see 2 of them in the processes running on the system and

Yes, a pathway library would definitely make sense, I've thought about something like that myself, but never actually started making a database. Maybe we could start taking notes on this stuff and compile them together and make a thread in GeekU about it for other staff to refer to, let me know what you think, I'm in ;) I do know that the way I figure out if the file is bad or not (when it can also be a good one) is I first find out where the legit one is located in (the legit folder eg. c:\windows\system32) and then I compare that to where the malicious one is. If a normally legit file is found in a different folder besides the one it's supposed to be in then it's definitely bad, that's my conclusion.

Yes Johnny I found out the hardway last night! Lol, but thats what learning is about and Im talkin about locating the good from the bad, do you know I ALWAYS thought the Office folder was in the C:\Windows folder.......ALWAYS...... maybe it was on 98 or 95 even, but alas its in Program Files as Matt so correctly pointed out, does anyone know for curiosity sake if Office was in Windows in 98 or 95.......h*** 3.1? ;)

Ok, Yes a Pathway Library would be great really, do you know the number of hits we would get with that? Whew, I see people who have started but they havent finished or fall off after making the first attempt and realize how much work it is I guess. Yes, lets definately start a pthway Library at least we will be remembered for something one day when we pass! :tazz: I am sure that with all the staff here that others will submit and it will grow and grow and......

I even like crafty_girl_30's idea about the OffTpoic in the signature the more I think about it! Altho I can see my siggy is gonna get crowded!

Admin moved the OffTopic, I hope were right! : )

Wow its amazing how you "THINK" your gonna say something but it doesnt appear in print like you meant it OR you go to answer something and go off on another whole thought! I was going to answer the question about the "qwik answer" folder, yes that is exactly what I mean Johnny, if we are working on a log right then and one of our learned colleagues stop by the forums they cold just jump in there and it would be a central point for them to see what if anything is needed, the way it is now from what I see is they have to go to the proposed fixes and it could be tricky.

Also lets say the Q isnt about a HJT log, like U have someone with an OS question or a machine like you say is rebooting or crashing constantly or actually it could be just anything maybe we need help for our PC's I dunno........ lol

I was thinking of how we could streamline the process with the big guys because their advice is in such demand, it has to be tough to sign on and know your gonna get bombed with Q's and this would make it much easier for them, I once ran a giant clan in a game with a few hundred members and believe me it gets to the point that U dont even wanna sign in!

It was a thought anyway, in time they will decide whether they like the idea or not but Im like this with Q's and suggestions... I figure you cant ever go wrong throwing something out there, even if its not taken or well recieved maybe it will stir a thought in someone else or they will add to it and make it better and if it comes to a big blank then so what, it was only a suggestion right?
