need help with computer... i have been infected with the trojan.vundo since last week and i have been dealing with winfixer since about a month ago... can anyone please help me... here is my hijack this log...

Hi geetaroo and welcome to the Geeks to Go Forums.

My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your log.

1. Please DELETE your current HJT program from its present location.

2. Download and run the following HijackThis autoinstall program from Here . Please choose the default location of C:\Program Files\ as the destination. HJT needs to be in its own folder so that the program itself isn't deleted by accident. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!

Run HijackThis
Click SCAN and SAVE LOG. (a notepad window will open with the log in it when you click Save Log) (Ctrl-A to'select all', Ctrl-C to 'copy')
POST the log into this thread using 'Add Reply' (Ctrl-V to 'paste')

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS MOST OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO THE FUNCTION OF YOUR COMPUTER

Your system is currently infected multiple manifestations of the VUNDO trojan. When this happens, only one is active at any given time. To fix the problem, we must run the VUNDOFix as many times as there are Vundo manifestations, once for the active one, then, when the first has been killed, we run it as often as required to kill its replacement. Don't be alarmed if you are still getting popus during or after the first fix. It is just the other trojans taking over, but only for a short while :tazz:

Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
You will first be presented with a warning.
It should look like this

By using VundoFix you agree that you are doing so at your own risk
Press enter to continue....
At this point press enter one time.
Next you will see:

Please Type in the filepath as instructed by the forum staff
and then press enter:
At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):

Press Enter to continue with the fix.
Next you will see:

Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum
staff then press enter:
At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):
C:\WINDOWS\Help\MUI\itna.*

This will be the vundo filename spelt backwards. for example if the vundo dll was vundo.dll you would have the user enter odnuv.*
Press Enter to continue with the fix.
The fix will run then HijackThis will open, if it does not open automatically please open it manually.
In HiJackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:

After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis.
Press enter to exit the program then manually reboot your computer.
Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.

Download and install CleanUp!

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

Empty Recycle Bins
Delete Cookies
Delete Prefetch files
Cleanup! All Users

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.

Then, please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

All I get in the Safe Mode is a Black screen (with Safe Mode in the corners of the screen)... What should I do? Run it in Normal mode or something else?

Sorry for the delayed response but I did not feel too well yesterday...

I'll keep on trying to get on the Safe Mode until I get a new response from you... Thanks again...

When you are starting up in Safe Mode, do you have choices like Safe Mode, Safe Mode with prompt, Safe Mode with internet? etc.?

Yes I have choices when I go into the menu after pressing F8 at start-up... I always choose the one that says "Safe Mode" only... so let me know what I can do from there... thanks...

1. Download VundoFix, doubleclick it to extract the files to a folder on your desktop.

2. Boot into Safe Mode with Command Prompt. When you are fully in safe mode with command prompt, a CMD window will open.

3. Press Ctrl-Alt-Delet keys all at the same time to open up Task Manager.

4. When task manager opens Click File> New Task (Run...).

5. Then browse to the VundoFix folder on your desktop. It will be in the following location: C:\Documents and Settings\"Your User Name"\Desktop\VundoFix

6. Once in the VundoFix folder, double click on KillVundo.bat

7. Now proceed as per the regular instructions.

it says that the anti.dll is missing (this is a log after i had hijackthis scan the computer while in safe mode)

i am assuming the geeff.dll and the wvutu.dll are the other trojans you have mentioned to me... so tell me what to do since the things you told me to check were missing...

it did get a buddy in the 02 spot... (the geeff.dll) so do you want me to repeat the killvundo on safe mode... i still haven't done the custon cleanup and i never did the checking of items in hijackthis for the anti.dll...

Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
You will first be presented with a warning.
It should look like this

By using VundoFix you agree that you are doing so at your own risk
Press enter to continue....
At this point press enter one time.
Next you will see:

Please Type in the filepath as instructed by the forum staff
and then press enter:
At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):

Press Enter to continue with the fix.
Next you will see:

Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum
staff then press enter:
At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ffeeg.*

This will be the vundo filename spelt backwards. for example if the vundo dll was vundo.dll you would have the user enter odnuv.*
Press Enter to continue with the fix.
The fix will run then HijackThis will open, if it does not open automatically please open it manually.
In HiJackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:

Ok... I ran VundoFix for the second time... and here are the logs for ActiveScan and HijackThis and the VundoFix log... in that order (for the geeff.dll) I also did the CleanUp!...

I also had Norton do a quick scan and in the Windows Registry Scan it got an error...
it said..

"The key. "SOFTWARE\Microsoft\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\HijackThis," refers to "UninstallString" that refers to "C:\Documents and Settings\User\Desktop\HijackThis.exe/uninstall," a file that does not exist"

Well it fixed that problem after I told it to fix scan...

How is my latest HijackThis log look???... and please tell me how to finally delete those "file missing" files... if they are still in the computer...

After those fixes... how come my computer seems to start up slowly... and the display icon for my wireless network is missing (the one that looks like "signal" bars)...

and what is the ccApp that always closes when I turn of my computer...

and did this also fix the winfixer pop-ups???

Finally, I forgot to mention that when I did the VundoFix and then it started HijackThis... It wouldn't have the "02 - BHO" files corresponding to the .dll files (trojans) that need to be deleted... When I scan with HijackThis... they just seem to have disappeared... and does that have something to do with the "file missing"'s

1. Don't worry about ceratain anomalies occurring during the VundoFix. They are all a part of the nature of the beast.

2. Missing files are just that, non-existant files, they have been deleted.

3. I have no idea about what happened to your icon

4. You are running programs at startup that do not need to run. They could be started manually on an "on demand" basis.

5.

Please RUN HijackThis.
. Click the SCAN button to produce a log.
Place a check mark beside each one of the following items:

O20 - Winlogon Notify: anti - C:\WINDOWS\Help\MUI\anti.dll (file missing)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: geeff - C:\WINDOWS\system32\geeff.dll (file missing)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: wvutu - C:\WINDOWS\system32\wvutu.dll (file missing)
Now with all the items selected, and all windows closed except for HJT, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button. Close the HijackThis window.
Reboot Your System
Finally, RUN Hijackthis again and produce a new HJT log. Post it in the forum so we can check how everything looks now. In addition, please tell me if there are any more malware problems that you are aware of.

1. My startup seems back to normal speed again... that or I wasn't paying attention...

3. The icon came back again... the DSL connection was acting up last night so I wasn't able to edit the last message...

6. Was the Winfixer Problem part of the trojans as well... because that was the only problem I had before the trojans...
