Hi !!

I have patiently tried all your steps and as I am still not able to resolve my problem, I am posting my hijackthis log as well as my problem here. I tried with Adware, then Ewido Security. Whenever I restart Ewido detects "spyware.look2me" and confirms having cleaned it.

This is detected in the following section.

spyware.look2me
process : c:\windows\system32\guard.tmp

However, even after removal the spyware continues in the system and I end up getting several pop-up ad the most common ones being the following

You have the latest version of VX2.

1. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

2. Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe.

• Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts.
• Open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop.
• Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter.
• This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log.
• Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Note: If you receive, while running option #1, an error similar to:

''C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe
C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. choose close to terminate the application.."...

• Then please use option 5 or,
• The web page link in the l2mfix folder to solve this error condition.

Do not run the fix portion without fixing this first.

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

• From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat.
• Select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter.
• Press any key to reboot your computer.
• After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal).
• L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log.
• Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

Note: If after the reboot the desktop icons dont dissappear or the log does not pop up then in the l2mfix folder double click the second.bat file to continue with the fix

The first step did not work. Had to use 'second.bat' and could generate the log file. However, while second.bat was going on, EWIDO security kept on prompting detection of Spyware.Look2me and was prompting me to click OK to clean it. Kept on doing it and the pop ups continued as usual.

Also, something which I missed informing you earlier was that whenever I log in, i get the following error also, "An exception occurred while trying to run C:\windows\system32\usandlg.dll"?DllGetVersion". This error comes at every restart.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please run L2M part 1 again:

You have the latest version of VX2.

1. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

2. Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe.

• Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts.
• Open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop.
• Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter.
• This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log.
• Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Note: If you receive, while running option #1, an error similar to:

''C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe
C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. choose close to terminate the application.."...

• Then please use option 5 or,
• The web page link in the l2mfix folder to solve this error condition.

Do not run the fix portion without fixing this first.

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

• From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat.
• Select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter.
• Press any key to reboot your computer.
• After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal).
• L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log.
• Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

Note: If after the reboot the desktop icons dont dissappear or the log does not pop up then in the l2mfix folder double click the second.bat file to continue with the fix

You appear to have the newer, nastier strain of L2M which is not removed by our conventional tools.

1. Download a trial version of SpySweeper

• Install the application
• Update its definitions
• Run the program
• Let it remove everything it wants
• Finally, when it has finished its work, REBOOT your system.

2. Finally, run HijackThis, click SCAN, produce a LOG and POST it in this thread for review.
