Task Manager Trouble

Ok this problem has been occuring for a few weeks now, and I have no idea how to fix it. Every time I press control alt delete, the task manager flashes for half a second and disapears. I always used task manager to end processes that slowed down my computer, but now I cant. I have ran Ad-Aware many times and it hasnt fixed the problem.

Click start then run, type sfc /scannow then press enter to replace the system files, you need the XP CD and get a blue progress bar, reboot when the bar goes
