Before applying the following fix, please disable Ewido's Guard feature first to prevent any mishaps.

Disable Ewido's Guard:

• Open Ewido and select "Deactivate Guard" under the 'Additional' menu.
• Reboot to complete the change

Step 2

Open HijackThis and place a check before the following entries:
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapp...rch/search.html
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {4D25F926-B9FE-4682-BF72-8AB8210D6D75} - (no file)

• Important: Do NOT launch any new applications while the tool is running!
• Restart the computer.
• Run the removal tool again to ensure that the system is clean.

Step 4

Then run any of the following online virus scans (saving the scan report when complete):

• Kasperskey Online
• Panda ActiveScan
• Trend Micro (Europe)

Step 5

Then post a fresh HJT log after rebooting along with the online scan results.

i followed your instructions. vundo removal tool keeps saying 1 file left and will be removed when i reboot....I have rebooted and rerun the removal tool several times and still get the same message..and mcafee is still seeing the PUP on my computer. also hi jack this - i can't remove the 02 lne and the 20 line with the vtstq in it..still showing up in log.

Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode.

You've installed Spyware Doctor since your first post. Did you do this before following my first instructions? It could be why the Symantec tool failed because of the real-time protection.

Open Spyware Doctors and disable the real-time protection.

• Click the Onguard button to the left.
• Remove the check from the "Activate OnGuard" option in the next window to disable all protection.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

• Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
• This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
• After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
• Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
• You will first be presented with a warning.

• At this point press enter one time.
  
• Next you will see:

Download and install CleanUp!

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

• Empty Recycle Bins
• Delete Cookies
• Delete Prefetch files
• Cleanup! All Users

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.

Then, please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

The follow these simple steps to keep yourself safe and secure in the future.


Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows ME or XP then you should disable and renable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point.

Clean out ALL Temp Files

This process will clean out your Temp files and your Temporary Internet Files. Please do both steps:

Step 1: Delete Temp Files
To clean out your temp files, click on Start and then run, and type %temp% and press the ok button.

This should open up the temp directory that your machine uses. Please delete all files that are found there. If you get an error when deleting a file, skip that file and delete all the others. If you had trouble deleting a file, reboot into Safe Mode and follow this step again. You should now be able to delete all the files.

Step 2: Delete Temporary Internet Files
Now I want you to open up Internet Explorer, click on the Tools menu and then Internet Options. At the General tab, which should be the first tab you are currently on, click on the 'Delete Files' button and put a checkmark in 'Delete Offline Content'. Then press the OK button. This may take quite a while, so don't be alarmed if it takes a while.
