Hi, I'm having problem with this invalid BackWeb pop-up after removing it with Spybot S&D. Now everytime when I on my computer, it will have a Runner error: Invalid BackWeb application id "137903" pop-up. I have done everything for preparation posted, but it is still there. Below is the HJT scan result. Please help, thanks a lot.

I would like to know if it is necessary to delete BackWeb because I saw on somewhere that it is used by HP computers to check for updates. Thanks a lot for helping! ^_^

Hello Mayura :tazz:

Let's see if we can fix your problem

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE
O4 - Global Startup: Updates from HP.lnk = C:\Program Files\Updates from HP\137903\Program\BackWeb-137903.exe

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked.

Reboot and post a new Hijack log

Erm... Sorry, but I would like to ask if BackWeb should be removed or not because HP said that it is not a spyware. Thanks. :tazz:

This is very widely used among corporations like Kodak, WD and HP. The original intention of this program is to easily keep your applications updated without you having to do anything. The down side to this is many variants of are floating around and some collect information about you.The choice is entirely up to you.

Let me know what you intend to do :tazz:

Thanks for your explanation :tazz: I'm not really sure if I want to remove it... After all it is installed by HP... What do you suggest? :)

If its not causing problem I would leave it. I normally don't remove it. By checking the entry in hijack we are not removing it, we are just not letting it run at startup. Is the error gone at startup?

Sorry, but I haven't do anything yet... I'm afraid of spoiling the computer ^_^; Will it still download updates if I stop it at startup?

You can download updates manually from the HP website at any time you wish. I removed it from my computer. If the error doesn't bother you leave it alone :tazz:

When you go to the HP website they will scan your computer and tell you what you need. there will be no need for any kind of recovery :tazz:

There are some requirements the computer needs to have like the windows cannot be upgraded etc., so I think it would be better for it to download the updates since I don't think I will be using computers very often... So you think it is not necessary to do a backweb recovery using spybot? :tazz:

This has nothing to do with Windows updates. This is for HP updates, and to be honest I have 2 HP computers and have never updated anything. Did you delete the program or just check the entry in Hijack. If you just checked the entry in hijack then you can just restore the entry with hijack.Let me know :tazz:
