when trying to install new software on an xp machine, windows installer looks like it opens, but it is an empty box that is one inch wide by about 9inches high, and won't let me minimize, close, resize, etc. I have to use the task manager to close it (although the app is listed there as windows installer and that it is running).

any help would be great!

So this installer window only opens when you go to install a new program, or does this happen when XP starts?
