I have also pasted my log file from TrojanHunter and HijackThis. The log for HijackThis was completed after I ran Ad-aware SE, CWShredder, Spybot, Ewido, and Trojan Hunter.

Welcome kcbosox26. Sorry for the delay.

Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode.

Please move HijackThis to another location, preferably c:\Program Files\HijackThis. Anywhere is fine, other than your Desktop or a Temp folder. If HijackThis is in a temporary folder you run the risk of accidentally deleting the backups or it clutters your desktop with all the backups.
If you use Windows XP it might be that you just double clicked on the file HijackThis.exe, but that only extracts the file to a temporary folder. Please select the file and Extract it to a folder.

How do you make a permanent folder:

Click "My Computer", then "C:\" and then on "Program Files".
In the menu bar, "File"->"New"->"Folder".
That will create a folder named "New Folder", which you can rename to "HJT" or "HijackThis".
Now you have "C:\Program Files\HijackThis". Put your HijackThis.exe there.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
You will first be presented with a warning.
It should look like this

By using VundoFix you agree that you are doing so at your own risk
Press enter to continue....
At this point press enter one time.
Next you will see:

Please Type in the filepath as instructed by the forum staff
and then press enter:
At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):
- C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtsqr.dll
Press Enter to continue with the fix.
Next you will see:

Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum
staff then press enter:
At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):C:\WINDOWS\system32\rqstv.*
This will be the vundo filename spelt backwards. for example if the vundo dll was vundo.dll you would have the user enter odnuv.*
Press Enter to continue with the fix.
The fix will run then HijackThis will open, if it does not open automatically please open it manually.
In HiJackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {6DD0BC06-4719-4BA3-BEBC-FBAE6A448152} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtsqr.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: vtsqr - C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtsqr.dll
After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis.
Press enter to exit the program then manually reboot your computer.
Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.

Download and install CleanUp!

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

Empty Recycle Bins
Delete Cookies
Delete Prefetch files
Cleanup! All Users

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.

Then, please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

Thanks for your reply JC. Just a couple of questions before I get started.

Do I need to disable McAfee, Spybot, Ad-aware before I begin?

Also, before I go into Safe Mode, do I need to download the .exe's to my deskto that you have told me to run?

Since you are running most of the fixes from within safe mode, you should be fine.
Just make sure that you follow the instructions exactly as shown and you will be less likely to run into difficulties. Please make sure that you print the instructions, or save a copy in Notepad, so you can follow them) If there are problems, we will adjust accordingly.

The instructions show the downloads being done in normal mode.

Good-luck. Let me know if you run into any difficulties.

Hi JC - Below is what I have found after completing your steps....Do you think I am safe now?

I could not find the log file after I ran the ActiveScan, however, the scan did run and it came back saying "No virus or other malicious software has been found."

It looks like we killed the Vundo infection.

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend the following:

Detection and Removal Programs:

You already have a few Anti-spyware detection programs -Ad-aware/Spy Sweeper/SpyBot and MS Anti-Spyware. It is important that all of these programs are updated, and you run full system scans on a regular basis.
Please see the following tutorials below:

How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware
Using Spybot - Search & Destroy to remove Spyware , Malware, and Hijackers

Prevention Programs:

I recommend the following programs to help prevent an infection:

Spywareblaster - Helps prevent spyware from being installed.
Please see the following tutorial - Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware, Hijackers, and Malware.

Other necessary Programs and steps:

Anti-virus program - It looks like you have an anti-virus program. It is important that this program is updated, and you run a full system scan on a regular basis.

More Secure Browser - Internet Explorer is not the most secure and best browser. There are safer and better alternatives available. I recommend Firefox, and/or Opera.

Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - If you are a Windows users you must visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This site is a Microsoft site that will scan your computer for any patches or updates that are missing from your computer. It will then provide a list of items that it can download and install for you. This will ensure your computer has all of the latest security updates available installed on your computer and is secure from any known security holes.

One question, is it bad to be running all of the following at the same time: -Ad-aware/Spy Sweeper/SpyBot and MS Anti-Spyware?

Should I just be running 1 of those because aren't they all doing the same thing?

Finally, I will download Spywareblaster and look into Firefox.

Just running a scan with each of the programs installed will not cause any conflicts or eat up system resources. Each of the Spyware detection programs will compliment one another . You will find that one program will pick up something another one will miss. However, you have Spysweeper and MS Anti-spyware running in memory from start-up. I would recommend that you turn off the real-time detection in one of these programs. The reason being, each program you have running at start-up will eat up valuable system resources. There is also a chance that the real-time protection from one program could conflict with another program. I guess SpySweeper would be a good one to turn off the Real-time detection since it is probably a trial version that you are using. But, I will leave that decision up to you...

You SHOULD NEVER run more than one antivirus program at once. At least the Real-time detection. This will cause conflicts, and the Antivirus programs may counteract one another. With that said, you could probably remove Trojan Hunter from running from start-up.
