Is there a way besides the history to track what pages have been recently viewed on the internet?

This is what I would suggest.

GO TO DISC CLEAN-UP
HIGHLIGHT TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES
CLICK ON VIEW FILES

And you will see a lot of sites that have been visited or
pictures that have been sent or looked at.

You might have to OPEN the folders.

When this is cleared or deleted, they all disappear.

you can also find a key logger, or purchase certain internet forensics tools that track usage and what nots...but..usually the history is the first place to look...

why?(just curious so i can tailor my next post for you specifically)

I want to know if temp files are kept somewhere else besides the history because one of my kids keeps deleting the history for the day that they are on the computer and I want to know what sites they have been to. They told me they aren't looking at inappropriate sites, but I really want to know. I've had some bad sites pop up before and mentioned something about it and now the history is being deleted the day that this person is on the computer.

What is a key logger? Where could I find internet forensics tools?

you could also set up seperate user accounts for each child then dissalow access to that tab for those users..

Can I disallow access to the tab using only the owner account?

you can..but then you wouldn't have access to it

I created accounts how do I lock the history tab so they can't access it through their accounts?

start > run > gpedit.msc

under the user configuration section > administrative templates > windows components > internet explorer >
enable the "disable changing history settings" option


under the user configuration section > administrative templates > windows components > internet explorer > internet control panel > then enable the "disable the general tab" option.

this will dissallow them from cleaning the history from within internet explorer (this may also prohibit you from accessing this tab from the Owner account....you will however be able to access it with the true administrator account...or you can go in and reverse the above steps when you truly want to delete the history)

How do I get to the user configuration? I went to start>run>and typed in gpedit.msc and it said it's not found. If I only created limited accounts and left the one owner account that says system administrator is that the true administrator?

it's not the true administrator but it should still give you access to the controlls.

can you do run > mmc


also..is this xp home or pro?

it's xp home. I've been looking at the cookies on my pc, do you have to go to the site to get the cookies with the web address it has next to the cookies?

I ran mmc and it brought up a box Console1.

After I change this I just do the same thing to change it back, right?

now with the mmc console open

do file > add/remove snap-in > add > then look for local policy. > click it > add > close > ok
