File infected: C:\Windows\system32\pmkhh.dll

My PANDA keeps telling me that it is eliminating the spyware Virtumonde from the above named file, and that I need to restart my computer to finish the process. After I restart my computer Panda tells me that the file is blocked (either in use or write-protected). After which I get the same message that it is eliminating the spyware.

My PC is running very slow. I've done all the preliminary steps that you asked for in "READ THIS FIRST" instructions, HOWEVER, my computer is preventing me from installing any Windows updates! Is this a spyware problem?

I can't seem to get into SAFE MODE...like everyone else!

I'm sorry, I guess I should be more specific.

Using the technique of hitting F8 during starup, I get the mentioned menu. After I select Safe Mode, it takes me to a blank black screen with "safe mode" in all four corners. Then nothing else.

Also...I've turned off my Panda antivirus so that my PC wouldn't run so slowly (it's constantly trying to eliminate the malware, I think). Will this affect the outcome of the procedure?

What is meant by:

The script message is to warn you. Some AntiVirus programs prompt a user for a script trying to run as you use Vundofix. If it does, you should allow the entire script to run.

A side effect for this infection is that it corrupts the safe mode.

Please leave Panda on so it can prevent other malware to join in.

Run the tool in normal mode. Lets see what we can do.

I run it in normal mode and the KillVundo.bat tells me

"Access is denied"

after I enter the second file path.

Try to get back into safe mode. Open the taskmanager (press ctrl+alt+del).

In your Task Manager, click 'applications' (first tab).
Click the New Task button.
Cick browse.

Move to the Vundofix folder and double-click KillVundo.bat. Move on from there.

OK...that seemed to work however I could not find the following file in the HJT log:

And when I restarted my computer, Panda said there was an error in my firewall startup.

For some reason the Active Scan did not give a report, but the scan came up clean.

I'm still having trouble with my Panda firewall. Can you help me with that? I have turned on the Windows firewall in the meantime.

Let's see if we can get it back working again.

• Open Panda Platinum Internet Security. To do this, follow these steps:
  • * Click on the Windows Start button.
    * After that select Programs.
    * Select Panda Platinum Internet Security.
    * Select Open Panda Platinum Internet Security.
• In the Control panel, click on Automatic Protection.
• On the right you will see the different protections incorporated in Panda Platinum Internet Security and their status.
• If the firewall protection is not installed, click on Install and the installation and settings wizard will start.
• If your computer has only one connection to the network or only one dial-up connection to the Internet, indicate if it is connected to a computer network, by clicking on This computer is connected to a local network.
• If your computer has more than one connection to the network or more than one dial-up connection to the Internet, you will be able to select those that must be used to share files and printers in the network.
  
  In this case, you will see the list of all the network connections and/or all the phone connections in your computer. Select the ones you want to use by checking the corresponding box (it is not advisable to check those which permit a direct connection to the Internet- MODEM, XDSL; etc-).
• Click on Next without unchecking the box Do not ask when common programs access the network, if you don’t want it to show you warning messages when a program you normally use needs to connect to the Internet. This is the most advisable option.
• If you click on View the common programs in your computer, you can consult the list of common programs. If you want, you can disable the ones you don’t want to access the Internet.
• Now, you will be asked to restart Windows. Click on Finish to restart your PC, as the automatic firewall protection will only be enabled after the system has been restarted.

After I open the program the Control Panel lists the Options:

Status
Full Scan
Quarantine
Services

Thers is no Auto protection category. Under Status, it lists the features that are currently active. All features are active except "Firewall Protection" and when I click on it it says, Error in this component. And that I have to either restart the computer or reinstall the software.

I probably have to reinstall the software or repair the installation. Can I do that from the Program Files?

Anyway, it seems like it should be an easy fix.

I'm more interested in the Vundo fix. Is it gone?
