Wow, does everyone have this Winfixer/WinAntiSpyware/Morewillsearch/Upspiral/Adserver/etc. . . like me?
You folks must be plenty busy, thanks for how you help folks.
Okay, I got lazy, I know, update, update, update.
Well, I've got it. :)

Followed all instructions on the "Do all this first" page.
Everything updated, ran Windowsmalicioussoftwareremovaltool, then CWShredder, AdAware, SpybotS&D, then AVG. Cleaned off "vturr.dll" with AVG this morning, then did it all again and came out clean, rebooted and turned system restore back on. I also have SpywareBlaster on this computer. Oh, and ZoneAlarm firewall.

I occasionally get sent to a page other than the one I clicked on, of course it sends me to "morewillsearch" and any number of others, occasionally "winfixer" will pop up in a new browser window on it's own.
I'm also getting the "webpage you have requested is not available offline" box when working offline after start up.

I'm ready to log off, clean again, then run a Hijack This log.
I'll come back for instructions after I have the log.
Thanks again. :tazz:

Edit: I'll wait until someone's available to do another clean, and run a new log. Thanks

No need to make with the apologies, all you folks are performing an awesome service for the world at large.

I need a little time to do some housekeeping, and post a fresh log.

Thanks-a-mundo. :tazz:

Did another sweep with all the tools in my original post.
"AdAware" found and quarantined "BookedSpace"jacker.
Re-booted, ran another sweep, nothing, re-booted, turned system restore back on.
Ran HJT for the log which follows.
"winfixer"page still coming up on it's own when online.
Multiple "The page you requested is not available offline. . . " warning boxes still coming up when offline.

Thanks OwNt:
Took me a while to get back, seems my dialup modem decided to go south, got that fixed.
I had to figure out how to navigate in Safe Mode 'cause all I had was a black screen until I used the Task Manager.
Didn't see the O2-BHO: MSEvents Object when I ran HJT and began checking boxes for fix. Saw the rest though. The last HJT log shows it now.
Also, when I went to the next step to delete the local settings\temp\LJ31.exe, it didn't exist in that folder. Maybe I could have run a search on it though.
I wasn't getting the "the web page you requested is not available offline. . ." boxes when I got back running.
Looks like the about : blank thing went away. But looks like I didn't get rid of the other guys on the first run.
Thanks a bunch again!
Here are the reports.

Hello, florient.

Please download RegSearch Here
Extract it to it's own folder on the desktop, and run it.

Right under where it says Enter search strings and click OK... please enter virtumonde and click OK.

Please post back the results from that.

Also, did you purposefully set any restrictions with Spybot or such? If you did not please fix the entry below hilighted in blue.

Open Hijackthis, scan, and put a checkmark next to the following files:

O2 - BHO: Bho - {6B5DF64E-ACE8-4761-98C1-543C1ABB4945} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\apjsywbx.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {6DD0BC06-4719-4BA3-BEBC-FBAE6A448152} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\vtsts.dll (file missing)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [LJ31] C:\documents and settings\jan\local settings\temp\LJ31.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [LJ31.exe] C:\documents and settings\jan\local settings\temp\LJ31.exe
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present
O20 - Winlogon Notify: vtsts - C:\WINDOWS\System32\vtsts.dll (file missing)

Please close all open windows/browsers and click Fix Checked.

1) Please download the Killbox.
Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.

2) Then please reboot into Safe Mode by restarting your computer and pressing F8 as your computer is booting up. Then select the Safe Mode option.

3) Once in Safe Mode, please run Killbox.

4) Select "Delete on Reboot".

5) Open the text file with these instructions in it, and copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

C:\documents and settings\jan\local settings\temp\LJ31.exe
C:\WINDOWS\bsx32

6) Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

7) Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again..

Let the system reboot.

How is your system running, florient?

Please post back a fresh Hijackthis Log.

Hmmm. . .
Just had an odd thing happen.
Tried to access this site from my favorites, got the "try refresh or check the address screen." a couple times.
Googled it, and got a save file box, cancelled it, tried again, got the same save file box, saved it to my desktop. Something named "geekstogo", opened it, something about 'Virtuanews' is not freeware, and a bunch of commands. Deleted it. Tried again from my favorites, nothing, clicked refresh, now I'm here.

I don't understand what you mean by "set restrictions" with Spybot. The only thing I have done is the "custom" setup recommended for AdAware. So I don't know if I should check the O6-HKCU\. . . IE\Control Panel present line in HJT for a fix.

I will await instructions.

Thanks again for your time. I'm patient. I know we'll get there.

Hello, florient.

The difficulties you just experienced was a forum problem, it is fixed now.

Go ahead and check and fix this entry:

O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present

If you have not already, please finish the instructions I gave you and post a fresh Hijack this log.

Hope I ran 'killbox' okay.
Didn't understand where to go for the text file refered to in the previous instructions step 5.
But I typed them into a text document, couldn't get them to "paste from clipboard" in 'killbox', so I just pasted them with the mouse, and ran delete file button on each one individually then re-booted.

I haven't had time to really use the computer in our habitual fashion yet, not getting anything unexpected though, seems maybe a little sluggish.

Here are the items you requested, and again; thanks a lot.

Ah, a turn in the road, and all the prospects for a fresh start.

OwNt: I can only hope that your service is rewarded by the force that I refer to as the resonance.
It's that energy that makes electrons orbit, vibrate, oscillate, and do whatever they're doing at the moment.
:tazz:

A couple final questions, and don't hesitate to encourage me to post these elsewhere if it's more appropriate.

What should I now do with HJT, Vundo folder, CleanUp, regsearch, and ,killbox?
Will they show as false positives in WMSRT(windowsmalicioussoftwareremovaltool),CWShredder,AdAware,SpybotS&D,or,AVG?I useZoneAlarmfirewall.
Just keep them safe somewhere for a rainy day?

And finally, I have a teenager whose life as we know it will apparently end if unable to use this machine to go daily onto AOL,IM. I had switched to the newbetatriton version just to see what it would do, I'm considering going back to the 5.9. All attempts to get them to switch toICQ,or something else have failed because all their friends use the abhorrent beast.

I hereby vow to update, update, update!

Thanks for all the pointers, I'm tightening the screws. :)

EDIT: Updated malware tools again, ran all. CWShredder-found CWS.Qttasks, an HKLM hive sounds-like Quick time imposter, I think it's still around.
And AVG, found and deleted an ampx.exe file that was a part of that monster, AIM triton download.
And what's up with the "R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = about:blank" thing? I thought we had gotten rid of that. What is about:blank?

Here's one last log, thanks again.

Hello, florient.

I would keep Hijackthis, in case you need it again in the future. That is a personal preference, though.

Feel free to delete Vundo/RegSearch/Killbox/CWShredder. I would recommend keeping ad-aware/spybot though, maybe scan every week or so to make sure the system stays clean. :)

Also, a few programs may detect the backups as false positives yes, but that's fine if they do.

I am very glad to hear you are marking your machine more secure so this doesn't happen again. :tazz:

Hello, florient.

about:blank usually means a CWS infection. Let's try running CWS Shredder in safe mode.

You have a CoolWebSearch infection.

Download CWShredder here to its own folder.

Update CWShredder

* Open CWShredder and click I AGREE
* Click Check For Update
* Close CWShredder

Boot into Safe Mode:
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Now run CWShredder. Click I Agree, then Fix and then Next, let it fix everything it asks about.

Please open Hijackthis, scan, and put a checkmark by the following items:

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = about:blank
O16 - DPF: {7EC687F9-9EFB-4FA3-A5BA-197C3461448A} (Rm Control) - http://66.56.215.207/RM.cab
O16 - DPF: {917623D1-D8E5-11D2-BE8B-00104B06BDE3} (CamImage Class) - http://195.173.198.1...sCamControl.cab
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{CA0AA452-8E5B-493D-9318-A1EDC1BA1209}: NameServer = 64.136.28.120 64.136.20.120
.

Close ALL Open WIndows/Browsers and click Fix Checked.

Reboot your computer into normal windows.

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner

Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
    Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:
    Scan Archives
    Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer
  • This will program will start and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
    • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.
Please post the results of the Kaspersky scan and a new Hijackthis log.

Hey: Thanks again OwNt! :tazz:

Does one ever get to the point that they aren't continually cleaning with different products for whatever next thing has jumped onto their machine?
Looks like a new hobby to me.

'CWShredder didn't turn up with anything.

Here's the poop!
I heard a while back that 'sidestep' was undesireable, but I don't know if I can keep them out, it may be a part of my ISP stuff.
Got rid of 'AIMtritonbeta' going back to '5.9', I know. . . but my teen will wither away w/o it.
