Click start then run, type prefetch then press enter, click edit then select all, right click a file then click delete, confirm delete
Click start then run, type msconfig then press enter, press start up, look for any McAfee entries and remove the ticks, click apply, click OK, reboot
Select do not run configuration when it gets to the desktop, try to delete McAfee files, if they go, then click start then run, type msconfig then press enter, put the dot in normal start up, click apply, click OK then reboot

Click start then run, type prefetch, because XP loads files for frequently used programmes, McAfee will certainly be one of these, so it needs to be removed, this is to make sure sure you do not get a file is in use error when you try to delete it.
When prefetch is clear you also need to use msconfig /start up to make sure any McAfee files do not load at start up to avoid the error the same way
