OKay I did exactly what you said, and when I click the + next to sound, video, and game controllers a sub menu opens up and these are the 5 items that are in that menu:

-Audio Codecs
-Legacy Audio Codecs
-Legacy Video Capture Devices
-Media Control deivces
-Video Codecs

I right-clicked on audio codecs and went to properties, from the new window i clicked the properties tab again and it should be a list of the audio compression codecs. I can post those here if it will help

okay, i'll check that, but just recently the sound stop working. Says theres no drivers for the sound on the computer. Where would be a good place to pick up some quick sound drivers, cause I cant even listen to my music anymore.

Edit: I had SoundMax on there before, but it just disappeared. I found the sound not to be working around the same time I found soundmax had been delted off my comptuer....:-(

Download and install Everest.
Once installed open it > click motherboard on the right pane > then click motherboard again and it will display your motherboard make. Post it here and i'll link to some drivers.

Okay so the model of my motherboard is:
Intel Bay Field D865GBF

and the sound card information is:
Intel 82801EB ICH5 - AC'97 Audio Controller [A-2/A-3] PCI

and lastly my video card information is:
nVIDIA GeForce FX 5500

You'll find the drivers you need here.
Uninstall the current drivers through add/remove programs in control panel before installing the new ones.

OKay i added the sound drivers back and now the sound works. For some reason when I downloaded those new drivers it fixed the issue with World of Warcraft. Well lets just say the error hasnt come up all day today and it usually pops up at least once today. I changed the video configuration in the bios as well. It was set on AGP but the video size was set to 64MB and I have a 256MB. so i changed it. Thanks for all the help. If you need any more information or if something comes up I'll ask.

I am Having the same problem. just downloaded cataclysm and now my computer restarts when i go to play it. same error message pretty much. I dont know what driver to install. please help. I am up to date on live updates as well.
