Dear Sirs,

Need help asap. I'm a homeschooling mother of 5 and I rely heavily upon my google search. However my computer has been taken over. I have read everything and have followed all instructions. My Spyware dr. detects the problem and also says it fixed it but it hasn't. Have downloaded the hijackthis and these are my results. BTW I did save the hjt file to my c folder and it keeps telling me i didn't everytime i open it. thank you for your help!!!!!!!!!

Before we get underway, you may wish to print these instructions for easy reference during the fix, although please be aware that many of the required URLs are hyperlinks in the red names shown on your screen. Part of the fix may require you to be in Safe Mode, which will not allow you to access the internet, or my instructions!

You have quite a mixture of malware and the dreaded Virtumonde (Vundo B) infection. Before I deal with that, I must repair something more pressing; you are in danger of losing your internet connection due to a malicious DLL. Also, your ISP has left a spy on your system, which I will delete; it will not interfere with your future connection.

Firstly could you please disable Spyware Doctor from running during the fix, it may just hinder our attempts to change anything.

A malicious .DLL file is disrupting the LSP chain on your computer. We need to get rid of it.

1. Please download LSP Fix
2. Run the LSPFix.exe that you have just finished downloading.
3. Check the I know what I'm doing box.
4. In the Keep box you should see one or more instances of mkls.dll
5. Select every instance of mkls.dll and move each one to the Remove box by clicking the >> button.
6. When you are done click Finish, do not use the X in the top right-hand corner as nothing will happen!

If you reading this on screen, then the chances are that we have been successful; let’s continue.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

• Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
• This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
• After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
• Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat

• Delete Cookies
• Delete Prefetch files
• Cleanup! All Users

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the programme.

It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.

Then, please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

It's certainly looking better. The HJT log is fine except you have gained a file from AOL. This is it: C:\WINDOWS\system32\spcauth.exe I don't have AOL (and I never will), but from what I can glean, it seems to be associated with AOL Coach, and will ask you to logon. Please look into the help files of AOL and even perhaps ask them what you need to do to get rid of the nag.

*In the Killbox programme, select the Delete on Reboot option.

Just a few things I want to add. I'm not that great at computers but you sure made it easy to follow the directions-thanks

when I tried to links for the post they didn't work so for most of them I scrolled over them with the mouse then I typed them exactly in my address bar.

I ended having a problem going into safe mode- got hte 4 corners safe mode hang up. However, I had downloaded a hijack this program that actually worked from the desktop and then put me into safe mode and followed the procedure at that point- thankfully- maybe I made a big mistake -will find out I'm sure-

Also had several problems with the last download and had to search another site to get the same download. Hopefully none of this is bad or corrupted downloads but we will see- I needed to hurry back online- sorry. Otherwise I wouldn't have been so daring.

I need to know how to prevent this from happening again. I have ez armor for my antivirus and spyware dr yet they got through. Any suggestions would be appreciated reatly. Again thanks for the help!!!!!!!

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove bad files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programmes changing them. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected.)

You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

(Windows XP)
1. Turn off System Restore.On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
I recommend going to the following link and update as recommended by Microsoft. This adds more security and extra features including a pop-up blocker for Internet Explorer. Microsoft Update

Now that everything is fixed, I suggest that you consider getting these programmes to help keep the computer clean:

SPYWARE BLASTER - Blocks bad ActiveX items from installing on your computer.
AD-AWARE PERSONAL – A fine free malware detector and removal programme
SPYBOT S&D – Excellent free spyware detector and removal programme
GOOGLE TOOLBAR - Blocks many unwanted pop-ups in Internet Explorer.
FIREFOX - Safer alternative to the Internet Explorer web browser.
AVG ANTIVIRUS FREE EDITION - Free antivirus programme if you currently are not using one.
ZONEALARM - Free firewall programme if you currently are not using one (Windows XP has a built-in firewall).

Remember to update these frequently.

Please note that whilst there is nothing wrong in having more than one antispyware programmes for “on demand” scanning, having two or more antivirus systems is not recommended as they may well interfere with each other.
