This must not be my week, because I'm back with a new problem. My a friend of mine had a virus send a link to everyone on her buddy list that had the title "why am I in this?" and a weird smiley face next to it. I clicked the link and McAffe starts going crazy, detecting trojans, ect. I asked her if she had just sent me a virus, and she said "I have no idea what just happend, I opended something and my computer went crazy". I have no idea if this is related, but I thought it might be worth mentioning.

McAffee cannot delete, clean, or quarantine this file, and as a result, my computer is running incredibly slow, almost not at all.
My Ad-Aware scan didn't help either, although I did remove quite a bit from that too.

Boot Into Safe Mode
Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work.


View Hidden Files and Folders
Go to My Computer >Tools >Folder Options >View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing / visible. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files option.


Start HijackThis Fix
Open Hijack This and click on Scan. Check the following entries (make sure you do not miss any)

*You needn't remain online while it's doing the scan but you have to re-connect after it has finished to see the report.
*Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan

Please follow the instructions provided, you may want to print out these instructions and use them as a reference.

Please download ewido security suite it is a free version of the program.

• Install ewido security suite
• When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck..
  • Install background guard
  • Install scan via context menu
• Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double-click it.
• The program will now open to the main screen.
• When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  
• You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
  • Then click on Start Update.
• The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  (the status bar at the bottom will display ("Update successful")

If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.

Once the updates are installed do the following:

• Click on scanner
• Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
• You will be prompted to clean the first infection.
• Select "Perform action on all infections", then proceed.
• Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
• Click Save report.
• Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.

Close ewido security suite.
