I have xp pro with service pack 2 on my computer .I am trying to repair my os with a missing file but I have a windows xp pro sp1 cd .I tried to boot from it ,by restarting my computer and pressing a key nothing ~Is there another that somebody can walk me through trying to use the repair on the cd

Can you get into Windows??

BTW, what file is missing?? If you can get into Windows, go to Start>Run and type in sfc /scannow.. Have your XP cd handy!!

Now, what happens when you boot from the cd??
