WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER 10 -- HELP SOON!

When I play my videos on Windows Media Player it tells me that a codec is required to play that file. So I went to the website and downloaded the Microsoft Codec package which was suppose to take care of that issue. Well it didn't. It still says the same thing. Does anyone have any ideas on how to help me? Please help!
