My fairly new laptop is locking up , freezing and occasionally screen goes blank requiring reboot, about every 20 minutes or so. Have run all scans which show clean, but I suspect sometype of malware- the fan is running constantly like some strain on the computer. Recently got rid of PSguard with help int this forum. Here's hijack log:

Hello Scott

I must admit that what you describe sounds like a clogged up CPU fan and overheating.

I have just looked over your HJT log and there is nothing remarkable about it.

To be safe, please try this:

Download:WinPFind

Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"

Don't use it yet!

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

From the WinPFind folder-> Doubleclick WinPFind.exe and Click "Start Scan"

It will scan the entire System, so please be patient!

One you see "Scan Complete"-> a log (WinPFind.txt) will be automatically generated in the WinPFind folder.

Restart normally and post the contents of WinPFind.txt

I'll check it over.

Phil thanks for quick reply. I thought same thing, I took it to a computer repair place and they suggested the malware thing, I couldn't afford to leave it with them for 3 days , I lost my home and business in Hurricane Katrina, this computer is the only thing left of my business... with that in mind I remember when we scanned with Panda last time it caused me to lose internet connection...I can't afford to risk that so are you reasonably sure the scan you're suggesting won't do that? --I know you can't guarantee anything.. don't expect that.. thanks.

OK Phil, here's the log :
WARNING: not all files found by this scanner are bad. Consult with a knowledgable person before proceeding.

If you see a message in the titlebar saying "Not responding..." you can ignore it. Windows somethimes displays this message due to the high volume of disk I/O. As long as the hard disk light is flashing, the program is still working properly.

Hello again Scott

There are two candidates in that list. One of them is confirmed bad, the other doesn't show up anywhere on Google, but it was created at the same time as the bad one.

Download
Killbox by Option^Explicit

Please install Killbox by Option^Explicit.

*Extract the programme to your desktop and double-click on its folder, then double-click on Killbox.exe to start the programme.
*In the Killbox programme, select the Delete on Reboot option.
*Copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

C:\WINDOWS\flashax.exe

*Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

*Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "Yes" at the reboot now prompt..

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again.

I'll leave you to decide the fate of the other one: C:\WINDOWS\Bicycling Screensaver.scr

I still think this is a hardware problem though and I recommend you visiting our hardware forum for advice.
