you can wait until you get your disks. However I would recommend reading this topic thread at the Ubuntu forums. so that you can prperly prepare your hard disk for the install.

I am a newbie to linux too and have found that the LiveCD on some linux versions are great but after trying many versions of linux I have found that PCLinuxOS is a very good Linux Distro and has everything I need. I would also like to say that I think that the Linux Distros using Gnome are not so good and I really do prefer to use KDE. So I would consider using PCLinuxOS and try this. This is LiveCD and you can then install it from the CD to your Hard Drive and you can partition your hard drive in linux. All of the instructions are on the site and also any upgrades for KDE that you would like (to make it look and feel better) can be found at KDE Look and also to find some programs for PCLinuxOS just go to KDE Apps.

PCLinuxOS Preview .91

Plese note a preview release is probably not exactly the best release to get a feel for linux from as a New user of Linux. There will be many bugs that need to be fixed and there could be software incompatibility issues that still haven't been resolved.

Also this is pointed out on their download page

DISCLAIMER: This is experimental software. Use at your own risk.
