if you can boot up off the cd rom you should beable to put in the windowns 95 cd and run a clean install off that going to check more into it for you and i'll repost on it as soon as i can.

I know windows 98 as format on the cd not sure if 95 does if I'm right now you have no OS working on the system so if you put the 95 cd in and try to install it may tell you that the hard drive needs to be formated and do it But i'm not 100% sure on this. I can not find any artices on 95 doing this.

I installed the floppy drive with a new cable. I ran the Maxtor low level format, took about 3 hours! And then I ran fdisk to create a full active partition and formatted the drive to fat32. Now what do I do?

P.S. I tried using the 95 startup disk to run the Windows 95 setup off the cd but it didn't work.

1. I put the Windows 95 CD and startup disk in the computer. I ran CD-ROM support first, floppy support second.

2. Went to the "a:" prompt

3. Tried typing in "d:" to go to the CD-ROM

4. The system told me "invalid drive specification"

I am so close to making it work! What am I doing wrong?

put in the floppy boot disk boot your system pick boot with cd rom surport make sure to watch the screen close it will tell you what it set the cd rom drive letter too must of the time when you boot off a floppy it sets it to e:/ or d:/ then when you get the a:/ type that letter then at that letter type set up.

got to the setup then asked me for oem #. I thought you could install old windows versions on as many computers as you wanted.

EDIT: Found this, and I am installing Windows 95 as I type this. Will repost if successful or not.

installed win 95. hd only 2 gb. tazz, remember having this problem before? how to i get it back to the full 10 gb?

it had to do with what you pickwhen you fdisk and formated the no on one of the things it ask when you did the format and fdisk i can not remember what one it was had to do with the dos partition if i remember right.

You need to use a newer boot disk. Old versions of fdisk had problems with drives over 8gb, and old versions of DOS couldn't recognize more that 2gb. The boot disk loads a version of DOS when it boots. You should have no problem using a Windows 98SE, or even ME boot disk.

You may have another problem with Win95. If you don't have Win95 OSR2, it will only support FAT16 file system. FAT16 file systems only support up to 2gb drives.

If you have OSR2 be sure to format using FAT32, then it'll support up to 2 terabytes. If you don't have OSR2, your only option is to partition your drives into segments smaller than 2gb, or upgrade to a newer OS.

It's Windows 95 OSR25. I guess that's 2.5.

used the boot disk for windows 98 se, and my hard drive is now 10 GB. Everything is up and running like it should be. THANKS GUYS!!!
