Totally ignorant to how this works but please help me. I have Norton 2005 and recieved warning reference Trojan Vundo infection. On scan it finds it and says it removes it. Then the warning is back saying it can not remove C:\WINDOWS\System32\geedd.dll. Norton removal tools fail to even find this version of vundo. Killbox couldn't remove it either. Online help has been no help and I am about to go crazy because my computer is running so slow. I'm leary of anything online because of things like this but here is my HJT log. Please help if you can.

Please note that you should have Administrator rights to perform the fixes. Also note that multiple identity PC’s (family PC’s) present a different problem; please tell me if your PC has more than one individual’s setting.

Before we get underway, you may wish to print these instructions for easy reference during the fix, although please be aware that many of the required URLs are hyperlinks in the red names shown on your screen. Part of the fix may require you to be in Safe Mode, which will not allow you to access the internet, or my instructions!

You have a little malware and the dreaded Virtumonde (Vundo B) infection. Let’s see what we can do with the first sweep.

I note that you are running HijackThis from its zipped archive; please create a new folder for it (for example C:\Program Files\Hijackthis\Hijackthis.exe) and move the programme into it. It is very important you do this before anything else since backup files can be deleted if they are not within their own folder!

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

• Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
• This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
• After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
• Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
• You will first be presented with a warning.

Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

• Empty Recycle Bins
• Delete Cookies
• Delete Prefetch files
• Cleanup! All Users

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the programme.

It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.

Then, please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

Unbelievable! Thank you so much for your help. Amazingly no one at Norton's Helpline or Online Chat service thought to suggest running the removal tools for other Vundo versions such as Vundo.B. Me not being computer savy believed them when they said, "Oh yes, this must be a new version and we are working on a solution." I did not run all the items you suggested and went directly to Norton after seeing something regarding Vundo B. Ran the removal tool and all is well. If not for you actually taking the time to look at my problem and come up with a solution I would never have been able to fix it. I will defintely recommend this website to anyone having computer problems. Thank you again.

Hello again

Well I hate to say this but I tried the Symantec Vundo B fix two or three weeks ago, and it did not wholly work effectively. It is possible of course that they have updated their fix, but perhaps I should reserve a space for you for next week as a revisit.
