[I Love Katamari]

Hi! I keep getting the winfixer popups and can't seem to get rid of them. Also virtumondo keeps coming back no matter what I do! I've tried ad-aware and virus scans and it keeps coming back! Please help. Here's my Hijack This log:

We need to disable your Microsoft AntiSpyware Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.

Open Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Click on Tools, Settings.
In the left pane, click on Real-time Protection.
Under Startup Options uncheck Enable the Microsoft AntiSpyware Security Agents on startup (recommended).
Under Real-time spyware threat protection uncheck Enable real-time spyware threat protection (recommended).
After you uncheck these, click on the Save button and close Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Right click on the Microsoft AntiSpyware icon on the taskbar and select Shutdown Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Reverse the process when you’ve carried out the advise.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

• Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
• This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.

Download and install CleanUp!

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

• Empty Recycle Bins
• Delete Cookies
• Delete Prefetch files
• Cleanup! All Users

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.

Then, please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

Hi! Thanks for your help. I ran into some problems when following the procedure. After running Vundofix and HiJackThis I wasn't able to find the following:

However, I found the others and continued with the procedure.

Also I wasn't able to run the online virus scan. I tried multiple times and was unsuccessful. I received the following message each time:

"An error has occurred downloading Panda ActiveScan. Please repeat the process. If the error occurs again, restart your system and try againPossible causes of this error are:

Not allowing the application's ActiveX control to be downloaded.

Problems with the Internet connection.

The error could be due to a download error or an installation error due to lack of hard disk space, privileges etc.,... "

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu). Set the program up as follows:
*Click "Options"
*Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
*Put a check next to the following:

• Empty Recycle Bins
• Delete Cookies
• Delete Prefetch files
• Scan local drives for temporary files
• Cleanup! All Users

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

Once it's done, press Close. Reboot the system. This will remove files that were in use during the scan.

Sometimes the cause is because of missing visual basic runtime files. Installing them can solve the problem, because those are also needed for ActiveX:
Go here to download a selfextracting file that may solve the problem.

Try running Panda again.

If it fails again:
Can you tell me what happens if you try to do the Panda?

When I click on "Check Now" it asks for country, state, and email. After that I clicked on "Scan Now" a picture showed an arrow pointing to the top of the window so that you can download Active X. The bar that comes for the Active X download didn't come down and the bar at the bottom showing the amount of time left for the download became fully green, no time showed. It then goes to the next screen saying the following:

"ActiveScan has started...

You are about to start the scan and get a second opinion on the security of your PC.

Please wait a moment while ActiveScan completes the download."

The bar at the bottom then starts to fill up, along with the time left. When I do it, the time left averages 70 seconds left.

Then it goes to a screen saying "Error on downloading ActiveScan" and to try again. If the scan failed again it said to restart the computer and try again (which I did). It still failed and it gave the following reasons:

"Possible causes of this error are:

Not allowing the application's ActiveX control to be downloaded.

Problems with the Internet connection.

The error could be due to a download error or an installation error due to lack of hard disk space, privileges etc.,..."

• From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
• Click once on the Security tab
• Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
• Click once on the Custom Level button.
  
  • Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
  • Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
  • Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
  • Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
  • Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
  • Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
  • When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
  • If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
• Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

Close all Internet Explorer windows. Then reopen and try Panda again.
