cd drive stopped workin

one day i was messing a round and stuck a paper clip into the hole that is supposed to eject the cd manually after i did this i booted up the computer and my cd burner did not work in the POST screen it said someting about ATAPI incompatable press F1 to continue. when i did this did i change some setting or something and if so how do i fix it

Did you stick the paperclip in the hole while the computer still was turned on? Because if you did it's possible that you caused some kind of electric shock, most likely from static, that may have damaged the drive. Not likely, but not unheard of.

Check and make sure the cables both power and ide are not loose infact reseat them just to make sure.
Go into bios and see if the cdrom is recognized, if it ain't then it would either be a bad ide cable or the drive itself is bad.

i dont know why but a put the drive in a newer computer and it works fine
