my girlfriend has a virus on her computer that norton is detecting.... isnt detecting it in a scan only doing a pop up of the virus claiming it cannot be removed.... i cant find it anywhere to get rid of it and read other forums all over the net for removal instructions and none of them are helping.... i had her run the trojan hunterm... norton a million times... and restart her computer and do a hijack... here is the log... can someone please help its driving me crazy i cant find anything pertaining to this virus on her computer... i think im overlooking something... :tazz: ive even tried to do a restore point which i know i made one a few weeks ago after i got rid of another type of virus she had and yea that isnt showing up its showing only a restore date of today....

Hi Rawk and Welcome to GeekstoGo!

Give me specific filenames and locations that Symantec is detecting this bug??

Download WinPFind:

Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"

Don't use it yet!

Restart in Safe Mode

From the WinPFind folder-> Doubleclick WinPFind.exe and Click "Start Scan"

It will scan the entire System, so please be patient!

One you see "Scan Complete"-> a log (WinPFind.txt) will be automatically generated in the WinPFind folder!

Restart Normal and Please download Rootkit Revealer (link is at the very bottom of the page)
  • Unzip it to your desktop.
  • Open the rootkitrevealer folder and double-click rootkitrevealer.exe
  • Click the Scan button (bottom right)
  • It may take a while to scan (don't do anything while it's running)
  • When it's done, go up to File > Save. Choose to save it to your desktop.
  • Save it as RK.log

Post the results from WinPFind and RootKitRevealer

my gf hasnt had the chance to do the scans you told me to do, she is doing them tomarrow so ill be back with a post after she runs those programs..... thanks for your help

Click Start-> Right Click My Computer and select Properties-> Click Hardware-> Click Device Driver-> Click View-> Click Show Hidden Devices-> Scroll that list and double click Non-Plug and Play Devices!

Under Non-Plug and Play Devices-> Scroll that list and look for msdirectx

If found-> Right Click and Select Uninstall!

Close out the Device Manager!

Download and unzip BFUzip from HERE

Right Click the Zip folder and select "Extract All"

Locate and double click BFU.exe

Now locate and click the Greenish Blue globe with the chord plugged into it!

When the next small window pops up-> Copy&Paste this URL into it and click OK!

Now click the execute button and let the script run!

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner

Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
    Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:
    Scan Archives
    Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer
  • This will program will start and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
    • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.
