Popups:
1. WinFix
2. WinAntiVirusPRO, WinAntispyware - these came with a dire warning that my computer had uploaded a certain number of MB - same number with every popup.
One additional symptom seen: Putting system in standby mode always resulted in the system restarting abnormally, unless I logged off my Windows username first. Very similar to problem reported by pierre1981 (www.geekstogo.com/forum/Malware_Winfix-t66139.html).
Downloaded & ran VundoFix/Hijack This in safe mode per instruction from tampabelle to pierre1981 for nnnmn.dll and nmnnn.* BTW, VundoFix expects HijackThis.exe to be in the same folder with killvundo.bat and associated files.
Found only one entry to fix: O20 - Winlogon Notify: vtstt - C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtstt.dll. I tried fixing it but an entry is still in my Hijack This log (attached below).
Rebooted in normal mode and then ran a custom CleanUp! as instructed.
Apparently I have been able to get rid of vtstt.dll and ttstv.* in c:\windows\system32 folder. So far, no more popups. And when I put my computer on standby, it stays in standby without the abnormal restart.
Note: After making a previous attempt to remove nnnmn.dll and nmnnn.* (not found), I downloaded Active Scan, and it detected Virtumonde. I have Spy Sweeper for MSN, so I ran it after downloading the current program and definitions. Virtumonde was detected & removed. I thought I saw a post that mentioned both Virtumonde and Vundo - are they related?
Will see if the fix is permanent. If anyone can let me know if there is anything else that can be fixed, I'd be most appreciative!
