i ran a diagnostic on my computer and it says that i am missing my media diskette does anyone know what that is.. because i don't and i don't have the disk either but it is saying error for my cd rom and dvd rom because of it can some one please help me ..... is there maybe something i can download off the internet to fix it :tazz:

Could it be that a diskette would mean a Floppy Disk of some sort. Did you try a win 98 diagnostic disk or a win 98 boot up disk?

i don't have a boot disk for it i think its been like this for awhile and i just didn't see it until now :tazz:

This will rebuild rather than restore the registry and also replace missing or corrupt system files

Boot the PC and keep tapping F8 right after the beep until you get options, select command prompt only, type scanreg.exe /fix then press enter, it will run through a few screens then say registry repaired. Press enter then press ctrl + alt + delete keys together to reboot.

When it has loaded, click start, all programmes, accessories, system tools, system information, tools then run system file checker and replace any files it asks for from the 98SE CD then reboot.

i have just windows 98 not 98se and i also bought this computer used it didn't come with the windows cd can i do it with 98 and can i do it with out the cd :tazz:

You can do the first part OK

You can run the second part to see if any files are missing, if there are a lot then it is likely to be the problem

You could borrow a CD to replace the files
