It started with a bad file that had some trojan in it. My antivirus caught it, but it's Norton. (ew.) It claimed to delete it... so I scanned and nothing came up.
But then, another bad file came with the original and this one tried to install some form of malware. My default anispyware program caught it (it's the Microsoft one, ew.) and let me have the option to block it, so I did. Or so I thought.
So I immediately ran ALL of my spyware detectors which all commonly found that stupid "UCmore." Other than that, nothing much, but I cleaned everything out.
But it was still affected by something, because I have popups, unders, and random navigation to adsites, in both IE and Mozilla Firefox (my default).

I have scanned, cleaned, purged, reinstalled, updated, rebooted, deleted and everything I could name (including following the hijackthis prep instructions which found a whole lot more) but something is still there.

I went to the Geek Squad website to see what they could do, where they have an evaluating spyware scan. When I run it it cause errors. So I called them about it and they told me I have a virus, though I previously thought it was mal/ad/spyware. upset.gif so now I'm not sure what it is that is not being detected and by what.

I have heard that Norton is far outdone by other programs as far as detection, so should I use something else? Or is this my antimalware's fault? wasn't sure, so I shall post my hijackthis log as well.

ANY help at all is appreciated... because I'm stumped

Hello and welcome to Geeks to Go:tazz:

I see you have been infected by malware. Lets get you fixed up.
Please follow the directions as closely as you can . Lets begin

You have the latest version of VX2. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune....oads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads....org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

if you receive, while running option #1, an error similar like: ''C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe
C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. choose close to terminate the application.."...then please use option 5 or the web page link in the l2mfix folder to solve this error condition. do not run the fix portion without fixing this first.

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

If after the reboot the desktop icons dont dissappear or the log does not pop up then in the l2mfix folder double click the second.bat file to continue with the fix.

Hmm looks like you have the brand new version of this infection

Lets go after it

Please download WebRoot SpySweeper from HERE (It's a 2 week trial):
  • Click the Free Trial link under to "SpySweeper" to download the program.
  • Install it.
  • Once the program is installed, it will open.
  • It will prompt you to update to the latest definitions, click Yes.
  • Once the definitions are installed, click Sweep Now on the left side.
  • Click the Start button.
  • When it's done scanning, click the Next button.
  • Make sure everything has a check next to it, then click the Next button.
  • It will remove all of the items found.
  • Click Session Log in the upper right corner, copy everything in that window.
  • Click the Summary tab and click Finish.
  • Paste the contents of the session log you copied into your next reply.

Ok that log looks good, but there may be some leftovers that hijack can't detect

Please run this online virus scan:
Panda Active Scan You need to use Internet Explorer for this scan.
  • Once you get to the Panda site, scroll down a bit and click on Scan your PC
  • A new window will appear; click on Check Now!
  • A new window will appear; fill in the boxes (Country, State, email addy)
  • Click on Scan Now! >
If you have never used ActiveScan before, you will be prompted to install an ActiveX control (asinst.cab) : click on Install. Panda will install the component, and then install the latest signature files.
  • From "Select a device to scan...", choose "My Computer"
  • Allow the scan to run. It'll take a while.
  • When complete, click on "See Report", and then on "Save report"; save it to a convenient location.
  • I will need you to post that report in your next reply; simply open the text file, then copy/paste the content here. Also post a new Hijack log

Thanks :tazz:
