I'd Like to network a Mac and PC

Yeah as it says above i want to network or allow file sharing between a MAC and a PC
we have a modem router that both computers use to get online for adsl.
The mac is running OS X and conects via ethernet to the modem and the PC is running windows 98 and is conected to the modem via USB.

Im not sure if we need extra hardware like a SWITCH? or any other software?
I downloaded something called TSSTALK for the pc but am unsure on how to work it.

some help would be great.
Ive tried reading some guides online but its a bit hard to understand really.
