Unable to remove user~

My former roommate was allowed to use my computer ( BIG MISTAKE! ) He is no where near as computer literate as myself, and was unaware of the precautions that I take to ensure I dont get virus or spyware or anything. Since he moved out I have been unable to remove his user name from the computer. I am able to change the name, but when I try and remove it, the control pannel stops responding and will not allow me to remove it. Any assistance would be great!
