Ok, so here's what happens. My homepage is boogle.com because I like the cheesy quotes, and I like to use google for my searching. This still shows when I launch IE; however, when I type something into the search box and click "Enter" on the keyboard it goes to a page showing:

Error 404!

/search
File Not Found!

And in the bottom left hand corner of the page there's a box that says "HOBOT.RU hosting", and the address bar shows http://www.google.co...e=UTF-8&num=100

Now I know this isn't a problem with boogle.com because I can get on another computer at home and use boogle.com without a problem, it resolves to the classic google search results page.

I have run Ad Aware and Spybot(after updating both programs), done all the Windows Updates, and made sure my antivirus is updated. Rebooted my computer, and still boogle.com is resolving to what I mentioned above.

Please help me. In the past I have deleted obvious things from my registry, but I am not too sure what to get rid of this time.

Hello, mrs_kitti.

Please DELETE your current HJT program from its present location.

Download and run the following HijackThis autoinstall program from Here . Please choose the default location of C:\Program Files\ as the destination. HJT needs to be in its own folder so that the program itself isn't deleted by accident

Run HijackThis

Click SCAN and SAVE LOG. (a notepad window will open with the log in it when you click Save Log) (Ctrl-A to'select all', Ctrl-C to 'copy')

POST the log into this thread using 'Add Reply' (Ctrl-V to 'paste')

Hello, mrs_kitti.

You have a CoolWebSearch infection.

Download CWShredder here to its own folder.

Update CWShredder

* Open CWShredder and click I AGREE
* Click Check For Update
* Close CWShredder

Download the Hoster.

Unzip Hoster to a convenient folder such as C:\Hoster.

Do not run either program yet.

Boot into Safe Mode:
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Now run CWShredder. Click I Agree, then Fix and then Next, let it fix everything it asks about.
  • Run Hoster.exe from its new home
  • Click "Make Hosts Writable?" in the upper right corner (If available).
  • Click Restore Original Hosts and then click OK.
  • Click the X to exit the program.
  • Note: If you were using a custom Hosts file you will need to replace any of those entries yourself.
Please open Hijackthis, scan, and put a checkmark by the following entries:

Close ALL Open Windows/Browsers and click Fix Checked.

Now go to Start > Search > For Files or Folders. Type in SysTray.exe and give me the results in your next reply.

Please reboot into normal windows and post a fresh Hijackthis Log.

Please use the following advice to make your computer more secure in the future against malware.

1. Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows ME or XP then you should disable and reenable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point. You can find instructions on how to enable and reenable system restore here: Managing Windows Millenium System Restore or Windows XP System Restore Guide Renable system restore with instructions from tutorial above.

2. Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
Click once on the Security tab
Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
Click once on the Custom Level button.
Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

3. Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future. 4. Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

5. Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over. I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly. 6. Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit Windows Update regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

7. Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software. 8. Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. ou should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot. 9. Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs. 10. Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
