Having major problems with my PC here guys. Whatever it is I have it stops my internet connection, stops me from accessing any pages in any browser etc about 3 minutes after re-connecting. Thats the only way I can get access to the internet, unplugging my net connection and re-starting it every 3 minutes which sux
Recently I blocked 5 programs from accessing the internet via my firewall, these were 'winusb.exe', 'winusb2.exe', 'e2pco.exe', 'ctip.exe' and 'zzzxnse.exe'. I managed to track down these programs (apart from 'zzzxnse.exe) and delete them individually using mcafee shredder and the problem seemed to stop....then come back at a later date. There are now no programs trying to access the internet as far as I can see. Also my cpu seems to now be running at 100% constantly. I tried to use system restore but the restore won't fully complete
Any help muchly appreciated

Could you please download the most recent version of HijackThis from here http://www.geekstogo...action=cat&id=3

The newer version is more powerful and handles some additional items that might help with your problem.

When you've downloaded the new version, do a fresh log and post that so we can have a look at it.

Hi Spike

You have multiple problems here, including a couple of different trojans and CWS variants. We need to deal with them first then get on to the other stuff.

If you haven't already done so - download CWShredder from here http://www.intermute...r_download.html

Run it at least twice and let it fix anything it finds.

Reboot

Please download and install the trial version of The Cleaner from http://www.moosoft.com Then download and install the updates from the site.

Run a full system scan and let it fix whatever it finds. Keep a log if possible. Reboot if you are asked to.

Do an online virus scan here - http://uk.trendmicro...Check my PC now it doesn't need ActiveX so use Firefox not Internet explorer.

Do an online antitrojan scan here using internet explorer http://www.trojansca.../trojanscan.htm

You have copy protection software installed for an Adobe product which you don't want to accidentally delete. Do not delete either of these files. adobelmsvc.exe and there will be another called ~e5d141.tmp in the c:\documents and settings\<your username>\Local Settings\Temp folder.

Do a new HijackThis log and post it in this thread.

Hi Ilago

Thanks for getting back to me

CWShredder crashed the first time I used it but ran fine after that, it found 1 problem which was fixed

I ran 'The Cleaner' as soon as it started McAfee piped up saying it had found:
GENERIC BACKDOOR.D
DOWNLOADER.CY
EXPLOIT-MSO4-011
W32/DIPNET.WORM
it deleted them all
And The cleaner found SyncroAd, it qurantined this

I then used trend micro and it found
TROJ_DIALUI.B 1 INSTANCE
TROJ_SMALLGD 4 INSTANCES
TROJ_SMALL.FT 3 INSTANCES
TROJ_ZAPCHAST.G 137 INSTANCES :tazz:
WORM_DIPNET.E 4 INSTANCES
BKDR_WORTBOT.C 1 INSTANCE
TROJ_KEYLOGGER.A 1 INSTANCE
TROJ_PROXY.CA 1 INSTANCE
Unfortunately i was not able to get trend micro to clean these so I don't know what to do about it???

Trojan Scan found nothing

this is my new hijack this log:

Hi Spike

Well have some improvements so we're getting somewhere. I would guess that McAfee has suffered some interference from the infections you've had. After you get cleaned up I would suggest that you uninstall and reinstall it. The details on how to do that will be on the McAfee website - but not just yet. You might like to print this out as you won't have this window open for the fix. You might also like to move HijackThis from the Desktop into its own new folder - under My Documents will do.

Open HijackThis and Click Do System Scan. When the scan is complete check the following items. Close all open windows and click on Fix Checked.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchAssistant = about:blank
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ActiveMovie] C:\WINDOWS\System32\chkconn.exe
O4 - Startup: The Darkness HyperTeam.lnk.disabled
O4 - Startup: K-Weather.lnk = C:\Documents and Settings\Mike Barman\Local Settings\Temp\Rar$EX00.985\K-Weather.exe
O16 - DPF: {31B7EB4E-8B4B-11D1-A789-00A0CC6651A8} (Cult3D ActiveX Player) - http://www.cult3d.co...wnload/cult.cab
O20 - AppInit_DLLs: msconfd.dll
O21 - SSODL: systemie - {47F388F4-869A-4B76-8F2A-C00906F12672} - sysie.dll (file missing)
O23 - Service: ewconf - Unknown - C:\WINDOWS\System32\ewconf.exe
O23 - Service: zzzxDeMe - Unknown - C:\WINDOWS\system32\zzzxsvh3mc.exe
O23 - Service: zzzxIPSPEC - Unknown - C:\WINDOWS\system32\zzzxnse.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NeroFilterCheck] C:\WINDOWS\system32\NeroCheck.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_04\bin\jusched.exe
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE
O4 - Global Startup: Ulead Photo Express 4.0 SE Calendar Checker .lnk = C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead Photo Express 4.0 SE\CalCheck.exe
O4 - Global Startup: Adobe Gamma Loader.lnk = C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Calibration\Adobe Gamma Loader.exe

(These last ones from the Nerocheck line are unnecessary rather than spyware - your choice - they are either pointless or resource hogs. They don't need to start up everytime you start the computer. So check these as well.)

The next fixes are registry edits. The items you are deleting from the registry should stop the trojans reloading next time you start up.

Registry Edits

These items need to be removed from the registry. HijackThis only stops the services it doesn't delete them.

1. F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=C:\WINDOWS\System32\userinit.exe,C:\WINDOWS\System32\svcpack.exe
2. O20 - AppInit_DLLs: msconfd.dll
3. O23 - Service: ewconf - Unknown - C:\WINDOWS\System32\ewconf.exe
4. O23 - Service: zzzxDeMe - Unknown - C:\WINDOWS\system32\zzzxsvh3mc.exe
5. O23 - Service: zzzxIPSPEC - Unknown - C:\WINDOWS\system32\zzzxnse.exe

I've numbered each fix to try to make it easier to follow.

Click Start > Run. Type 'Regedit' and click OK. The regitry editor will open.

Before you edit the registry, you should make a backup. On the Registry menu, go to File > Export. In the 'Export range' panel, click 'All', then save your registry as Backup to the default location.

If you haven't done this before, the registry is similar to Windows explorer. It is laid out in folders in the left hand pane and information and settings in the right hand pane. You click on the + signs to drill down through the next layer of folders in the same way that you do in Windows Explorer - there are just a lot more folders. HKLM is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

1. Remove SVCpack.exe trojan

Locate the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE entry in the left hand pane:
Navigate down through the folders in the right hand pane to
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices\
SVC Service= C:\windows\system32\svcpack.exe

The SVC Service will be listed by name in the left hand pane with Type and Data in the other columns. Click on SVC Service to select it and right click to delete it.

Locate the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE entry in the left hand pane:

HKLM\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\

Userinit will be listed in the name column in the right hand pane with
C:\WINDOWS\System32\userinit.exe,C:\WINDOWS\System32\svcpack.exe listed in the Data column. Right click the Userinit in the Name column and select modify.

Remove the "C:\windows\system32\svcpack.exe" that is after the comma (,) Do not remove the C:\WINDOWS\System32\userinit.exe, Click OK.

2. delete O23 - Service: ewconf - Unknown - C:\WINDOWS\System32\ewconf.exe

Probably listed under HKLM\Software\Microsoft\windows\currentversion\runservices - try there first.
If you need to search Go to Edit > Find and type 'ewconf' (without the quotes) into the box and click on find next. The ewconf will be listed in the name column in the right hand pane. Select ewconf, right click and delete.

3.AppInit_DLLs msconfd.dll
Locate this key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows

AppInit_DLLs will be listed in the Name column of the left hand pane. Right click AppInit_DLLs and select Modify and delete msconfd.dll from the box in the screen that comes up. Click on OK.

4. O23 - Service: zzzxDeMe - Unknown - C:\WINDOWS\system32\zzzxsvh3mc.exe

Probably listed under HKLM\Software\Microsoft\windows\currentversion\runservices - try there first. If you need to search go to Edit > Find and type 'zzzxDeMe' (without the quotes) into the box and click on Find Next. It will be listed in the name column of the right hand pane. Right click and select Delete.

1. Remove SVCpack.exe trojan

Locate the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE entry in the left hand pane:
Navigate down through the folders in the right hand pane to
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices\
SVC Service= C:\windows\system32\svcpack.exe

The SVC Service will be listed by name in the left hand pane with Type and Data in the other columns. Click on SVC Service to select it and right click to delete it.

When i go to RunServices it doesn't have anything in it???

Hi Spike

Did you do the rest of the log work? I know it was a very long list.

If you didn't - finish that and let me know if anything else was missing from the list. It's not necessarily bad that it wasn't there - just a little confusing. but it sometimes happens after a lot of different malware scans have been done.

Post a new log after you've done everything else so we can check that.

Hi Spike

Your log looks much better now - well done - there was a lot of work.

from reading what you said did not manage to find ewconf or appinit_dlls

but there semed to be a number of files in Root called LEGACY_EWCONF and LEGACY_ZZZXNSE

Sometimes HijackThis is the only fix needed and sometimes the extra work needs to be done. I usually post the extra as well so it can all be done at the same time. None of these problems are appearing in the log so I think you've fixed them :tazz:

These entries should be removed so do a search using the same procedure as before for editing - Just to tidy up.

LEGACY_EWCONF
LEGACY_ZZZXNSE

You need to clean up your temporary internet files and your temp folder - but you need to be very careful about the ~e5d141.tmp file that is part of the Adobe copy protection.

Some prevention you should have a look at:

Keep Windows and Internet Explorer fully up to date - use automatic updates if possible.

Give some consideration to using Firefox for browsing unless you really need Internet Explorer.

Don't click on OK or yes on any advert on a webpage or in spam email. Before downloading any free software - check that it doesn't use spyware as 'marketing' or to keep it free. Google is your friend or ask somewhere like here ;)

Keep your antivirus program up to date and do regular scans
Keep your firewall up to date and read alerts before clicking Yes.

Keep Adaware up to date and do regular scans
Keep Spybot Search and Destroy up to date and do regular scans

These are free and will help to keep most spyware off your PC:

SpywareBlaster will block bad ActiveX and malevolent cookies. http://www.javacools...areblaster.html
SpywareGuard http://www.javacools...sgdownload.html - gives real time monitoring of common spyware changes.

IE-SPYAD puts over 4000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all. The download is quite a long way down the page - but the page is worth reading for more information about spyware.
https://netfiles.uiu...ww/resource.htm

Ask if you have any other questions.
