Hello again

Last communication before bed.

I really don't know what the answer is here. Here is the best solution. Go to User Accounts in the Control Panel and delete the profile that is not you. You won't lose any information as Windows will put all the documents pertinent to the user in a folder and place it on the desktop. Now we have just one profile, yours!

Run the fix on your profile and when clean, recreate the other profile by adding a profile and transferring the saved documents.

sorry for taking forever to reply...
finally got to doing the fixes again.. but no luck...
i did notice that while in regedit..
i tried to delete the keys for jkhfe
but when i delete them..
they show back up again...
so i went to Edit > Find and typed in "jkhfe"
and these are what come up for it:
1. Winlogon (folder) > Notify (folder) > jkhfe (folder) > 6 values
-(Default) - (value not set)
-Asynchronous - 0x00000001 (1)
-DllName - C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkhfe.dll
-Impersonate - 0x00000000 (0)

Hello again

I have two suggestions to offer, this is the first:

Please try again, the fix dated 31st October using Vundofix, but try it in normal mode. Do not boot to safe mode at all.

Please update me with the usual logs.

OK, I did say two suggestions, and the first didn't work, but I know this one should work OK. I wish I knew what was wrong with your PC apart from the malware.

Download the Trial Version Spy Sweeper it is a 14-day trial.
  • Install it.
  • Once the program is installed, it will open.
  • It will prompt you to update to the latest definitions, click Yes.
  • Once the definitions are installed, reboot into Safe Mode. Reopen Spysweeper, click Sweep Now on the left side.
  • Click the Start button.
  • When it's done scanning, click the Next button.
  • Make sure everything has a check next to it, then click the Next button.
  • It will remove all of the items found.
  • Click Session Log in the upper right corner, copy everything in that window.
  • Click the Summary tab and click Finish.
  • Paste the contents of the session log you copied into your next reply.
Along with a fresh HJT log

Thanks for making me aware that you have already used your 14-day trial of SpySweeper.

I am having a problem understanding something you wrote:

ok.. this should be the most recent logs

the HJT log that follows is marked: saved at 6:57:29 PM, on 11/6/2005

i.e. it is not a fresh log created following an attempt to remove vundo in normal mode; I am not sure why you want me to see most recent logs as I can do that by scrolling back in the thread.. Perhaps I did not make my instruction clear, but I want you to try the vundofix dated 31st October in normal mode and not safe mode.

Hello again

Possibly. I am trying to get rid of the error message which as you probably guess, is not normal. I don't know what is causing it. Trying a fix in safe mode is normally best since very few applications load up so there is little to interfere with the fix, but your problem exists in safe mode, so I thought that normal mode might suit your PC better.

The error could be anything but I am trying to reduce as much as possible. If the first download of Vundofix was corrupted in transmission, then that could cause it hence I wanted you to delete that one and download a fresh one.

We have checked for admin rights on your profile and not on anyone else's. We have disabled AS programmes from running.

I have one more option that I would like to explore.

Please download Process Explorer by Systernals from Process Explorer

Also download KillBox by Option^Explicit from KillBox

Then boot up in SAFE MODE

The rest of this fix must be done in safe mode.

Unzip Process Explorer and double click on procexp.exe

In the top section of the Process Explorer screen double click on winlogon.exe to bring up the winlogon.exe properties screen. Click on the Threads tab at the top.

Once you see this screen click on every instance of C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkhfe.dll once and then click the kill button.

After you have killed all of the C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkhfe.dll 's under winlogon click OK.

Next double click on explorer.exe and again click once on every instance of C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkhfe.dll then click the kill button.

Click on the Threads tab at the top.

Once you have done that click OK again.

Next run HijackThis and place a check mark or tick beside each of the following:.

O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {FC148228-87E1-4D00-AC06-58DCAA52A4D1} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkhfe.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: jkhfe - C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkhfe.dll

Now click fix checked and close HijackThis.

Next run KillBox and paste this line below into the box, select delete on reboot then press the red X Button, say YES to the 1st prompt but NO to reboot now

C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkhfe.dll

Then on KillBox top bar, press tools/delete temp files and follow those prompts and say yes to everything, then let it reboot.

After your computer has rebooted please run Hijackthis again and post a new HijackThis log.

under the Threads for WINLOGON... all the threads say !CreateThread+0x27
so I didn't know what to do for that...
I killed all the ones for Explorer...
and I think KillBox deleted the file...

Hello again

I have researched as much as possible to attempt to find what is blocking the fixes from working and I can't see it. Other eyes more expert than mine have also taken a look and nothing comes up, however one thing was noticed by someone else and not me.

I want you to run the Vundofix again, in safe mode but logged on as a user and not administrator.

well when i boot into safe mode and try to choose the account i want to log into.. I only have the option to log into ADMINISTRATOR and my own account.. the account I need to sign into (my Family account) doesn't appear...

so how do i boot into safe mode on my FAMILY account???


That part bothered me before so I suggested deleting all accounts except yours, which I stand by that good advice, but when you are booting to safe mode, are you choosing Administrator or your own profile which should have administrator's rights.

Now I want you to delete the copy of the vundofix you have and download a fresh copy and try the fix again in safe mode and in normal mode logged on as yourself with no other "family accounts"

Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files

  • This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.

  • After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.

  • Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat

  • You will first be presented with a warning.
    It should look like this

    By using VundoFix you agree that you are doing so at your own risk
    Press enter to continue....



  • At this point press enter once.


  • Next you will see:

    Please Type in the filepath as instructed by the forum staff
    and then press enter:



  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkhfe.dll

  • Press Enter to continue with the fix.


  • Next you will see:

    Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum
    staff then press enter:

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!): C:\WINDOWS\system32\efhkj.*
  • Press Enter to continue with the fix.
  • The fix will run then HijackThis will open, if it does not open automatically please open it manually.
  • In HiJackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED: O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {FC148228-87E1-4D00-AC06-58DCAA52A4D1} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkhfe.dll
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: jkhfe - C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkhfe.dll
  • After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis.

  • Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.
Paste a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

You will know if that worked or not, so if it didn't, please continue with this part:

Download:WinPFind

Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"

Don't use it yet!

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

From the WinPFind folder-> Doubleclick WinPFind.exe and Click "Start Scan"

It will scan the entire System, so please be patient!

One you see "Scan Complete"-> a log (WinPFind.txt) will be automatically generated in the WinPFind folder.

Restart normally and post the contents of WinPFind.txt

Would you please be kind enough to run HJT and produce a different log?

*Open HijackThis.
*Click on "Open Misc Tools Section"
*Make sure that both boxes beside "Generate StartupList Log" are checked:

List all minor sections(Full)

and

List Empty Sections(Complete)

Click "Generate StartupList Log".
Click "Yes" at the prompt

It will produce a NotePad Page. Please copy the entire contents of that page and paste it here.

WinPFind isn't working.
It says the file isn't found even though I extracted them.
But somehow WinPFind starts up.
I clicked on Start Scan and i get this error:
ACCESS VIOLATION AT ADDRESS 0044DE27 in module "winpfind.exe". Read of address 00000004.

did FixVundo.. it claims it got rid of the Trojan.Vundo
ran a Lavasoft - Adaware scan... nothing was found...
