Am trying to clean a machine with a nasty trojan. Symantec AV reports a file wvurq.dll contains Trojan.Vundo.B but cannot repair it nor quarantine it because the file is in use. I have concluded that the file is tied to Winlogon. That process uses the most memory while the file is on the system. I have managed to delete that particular file, after running various programs. However, my hijackthis log is still trying to load it. I tried deleting the entry with hijackthis but it keeps coming back. I am not connected to the internet, since the file gets back on when i do. I have tried symantec's trojan.vundo.b fixer, but it says it's not on the system. I was able to download and run a different cleaner, which has allowed me to delete the file. But again, the system keeps trying to load it. Here is my hijackthis log.

Winlogon is still looking for the file which you deleted, hence the message. Just a small adjustment is necessary.

Rescan with HijackThis. Close all programmes leaving only HijackThis running. Place a checkmark or tick against the following:

O20 - Winlogon Notify: wvurq - C:\WINDOWS\system32\wvurq.dll (file missing)

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

I have tried that, "many" times. It was tied into Winlogon. I finally got rid of it using a program called TrojanHunter. System is fixed now. Thanks.
