Hello...I have a computer that when I turn it on it does a series of beeps and then just has a black screen. When it shows the black screen, the CPU fan and everything else seems to still be running.

This problem will only happen 1 in 3 goes (approx every 3rd time i turn my computer on, it does the beeps) Approx 2 out of 3 times it will load straight to windows...however sometimes it will freeze after 10 mins in windows ( XP )

The series of beeps are: 1 Long, 8 Short, 2 short, 1 short. It will then repeat that pattern...However one time when I turned it on, it just had one long continuos BEEEEEEEEP.

I have a gigabyte GA-7VTXE+ motherboard.

This problem happens quite Spasmodically.

Any ideas??? Thanks HEAPS

Hello Trish!

8 short beeps means that there's a problem with your graphics card, try re-seating it and replacing it will a known good card.

1 or 2 short beeps means there's a problem with your RAM, try re-seating them and changing for known good modules.

Thanks very much for your reply....Is it possible that the problem is the motherboard???

This computer has been on for about 20 yrs/day for the last 4 years without any error beeps and suddenly it is beeping saying the Graphics Card and RAM.

It seems a very big coincidence that the Graphics card and RAM play-up at the same time.

I will try to reseat the graphics card and RAM when I get home.....I assume by 'reseating' you mean: pull out and put back in????

Thanks again

Hi. Yes, re-seating means pull it out, then put it back in.

Is it possible that the problem is the motherboard???

That's what re-seating and/or replacing them with known good parts would tell you.
