I have spywaredetector, adaware, spyware blaster, and norton anti virus. Winfixer installed itself when i did an unrelated search for 'adware' and clicked on what looked like a microsoft web fixer (i know I shouldnt have done it, but I was on the phone etc.....) I installed spywaredetector because it claimed to be able to fix it-to be fair they do have technical help....but it hasnt worked so far.
The files get deleted but whenever I go back on the net the pop ups start again......arghhhhh!

Please help.

many thanks

Steve

Hi SP1969 and Welcome to GeekstoGo!

Im sorry its taken so long to get a reply to you!

I need to see a file from your System please!

Go to the Site below
http://www.bleepingc...mit-malware.php

Follow the Instructions to upload a file and upload this file please

C:\WINDOWS\system32\diskperff.dll

Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
  • This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
  • After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
  • Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
  • You will first be presented with a warning.
    It should look like this

    VundoFix V2.15 by Atri
By using VundoFix you agree that you are doing so at your own risk
    Press enter to continue....

  • At this point press enter one time.
  • Next you will see:

Please Type in the filepath as instructed by the forum staff
    and then press enter:

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkhhf.dll
  • Press Enter to continue with the fix.
  • Next you will see:

Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum
    staff then press enter:

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):C:\WINDOWS\system32\fhhkj.*
This will be the vundo filename spelt backwards. for example if the vundo dll was vundo.dll you would have the user enter odnuv.*
  • Press Enter to continue with the fix.
  • The fix will run then HijackThis will open, if it does not open automatically please open it manually.
  • In HiJackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {FC148228-87E1-4D00-AC06-58DCAA52A4D1} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkhhf.dll

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [_WinMain] C:\WINDOWS\winexec.exe

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [aeb0krJl] C:\WINDOWS\xwoyodt.exe

    O20 - Winlogon Notify: jkhhf - C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkhhf.dll
  • After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis.
  • Press enter to exit the program then manually reboot your computer.
  • Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.
Download and install CleanUp!

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
  • Empty Recycle Bins
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Prefetch files
  • Cleanup! All Users
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.

Make sure Windows is Showing Hidden Files
http://www.bleepingc...al62.html#winxp

Locate and Delete these 2 files

C:\WINDOWS\winexec.exe

C:\WINDOWS\xwoyodt.exe

Then, please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

I went through all last night. I got to the final stage-removing winexec.exe which windows wouldnt let me delete and xwoyodt which was nowhere to be found. In the end i changed the name of winexec.exe to'gone' hoping to be able to delete it then. It didnt let me but when i rebooted it was gone.

However Winfixer has not gone, I think it seems to be back worse.

Here is my Hijack this log, Cheers

Steve

Sorry I tried again-I went through all processes and scanned with all my spyware programmes-spyware detector even allowed me to delete both winexec.exe and xwoyodt.exe
but winfixer still came back!! Could it be that some of my spyware programmes are actually causing a problem, I cant get rid of the quarantined stuff in spyware detector.

Cheers

Steve

Hang in there,we will get this bugger!

Delete the old Copy of the Vundo Fix and Download a fresh one, Panda messes with some critical parts of the Vundo Fix!

Download Pocket KillBox from here:
http://www.atribune....ads/KillBox.exe

We will use this in a minute!

Im gonna post the entire Vundo Fix again,so you have a guide to use!

    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\awtst.dll
  • Press Enter to continue with the fix.
  • Next you will see:

Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum
    staff then press enter:

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):C:\WINDOWS\system32\tstwa.*
This will be the vundo filename spelt backwards. for example if the vundo dll was vundo.dll you would have the user enter odnuv.*
  • Press Enter to continue with the fix.
  • The fix will run then HijackThis will open, if it does not open automatically please open it manually.
  • In HiJackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:O2 - BHO: C:\WINDOWS\system32\diskperff.dll - {A82BE883-EE51-4FAB-85B4-9432C6056673} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\diskperff.dll (file missing)

    O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {FC148228-87E1-4D00-AC06-58DCAA52A4D1} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\awtst.dll

    O20 - Winlogon Notify: awtst - C:\WINDOWS\system32\awtst.dll

    O20 - Winlogon Notify: disk - C:\WINDOWS\system32\diskperff.dll (file missing)

    O20 - Winlogon Notify: jkhhf - C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkhhf.dll (file missing)
  • After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis.
  • Press enter to exit the program then manually reboot your computer.
  • Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.

Now open Pocket KillBox and Highlight the list below and press Ctrl+C to Copy

C:\WINDOWS\system32\awvvt.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\awvvu.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddayw.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\gebca.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkkji.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\pmnlk.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ssqpo.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ssqrr.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\vturr.dll

Open Pocket Killbox-> Click File-> Click Paste from Clipboard!

Place a tick by Delete on Reboot and Unregister .dll before Deleting -> Click the Red Circle to Delete!

Click Yes to the Prompts that follow and let Killbox Reboot the PC!

Then, please run this online virus scan: F-Secure

Now lets look just a bit Deeper,Download WinPFind:
http://www.bleepingc...es/winpfind.php

Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"

Don't use it yet!

Restart in Safe Mode

From the WinPFind folder-> Doubleclick WinPFind.exe and Click "Start Scan"

It will scan the entire System, so please be patient!

One you see "Scan Complete"-> a log (WinPFind.txt) will be automatically generated in the WinPFind folder!

Hi CM
The pop-up was http:cache.trafficmp.com\tmpad\content\vendare\gator\0905\vendareputint-P2468.html and came up because I went to the microsoft updates site I scanned with adaware and one Spyware came up which it deleted. Fingers crossed no other pop up has come up....so far. It does seem that Vundo is finally gone. Thank you very much for your help and amazing patience, very much appreciated I will make a donation to the cause.
thanks again
Steve

CM

Here is the Kaspersky Log. I am still getting the odd pop up and Xoftspy pickud up some spyware called 'sidestep' which caused the Cassava pop up, the same as Winfixer, however the winfixer pop ups that usually follow the Cassava pop up did not happen.. The only websites I have visited are the windows update and Amazon.co.uk, the pop ups for sidestep occurred when I signed in to Amazon.
Could teh Cassava pop up be caused by something other than Vundo?

Steve
