I just built a new system tonight and everything seem to be working. However, when I try booting to the CD/DVD-ROM drive to install my OS, it spins the disc a few times and then stops. I'm stuck with no OS. The disc works on my Laptop when reboot from the CD.

The BIOS detects everything I have installed. The jumpers are correct and my cables are not loose.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I have a:

Athlon 64 2800
Epox 8KDAJ3 Mobo
512 DDR
9800 Pro 128mb
Lite-On DVD-ROM Drive
Western Digital 80Gig HD

Welcome to GTG kao. Do you have the CD set to first in the BIOS boot order?

thanks. sorry for the late reply.

yes, i do have it as first boot. i've even tried manually selecting it as my boot device as my system starts. the problem is, i'm not sure if there is something interrupting the board from running my dvd-rom drive correctly. it detects it and displays the name in the BIOS, but it just won't run correctly.

there is also a message, and i think i saw it around here posted already.

PXE-E61:Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting NVIDIA Boot Agent
DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

oh and here is my IDE set up:

my HD is connected to IDE1 Master with single select setting
my DVD-ROM Drive is connected to my IDE2 with master (tried Cable Select already) on.

I don't have a floppy drive installed. :tazz:

i'll be grateful if any tips are given. thanks again

Usually, a bad drive will keep clicking. Try unplugging the IDE cable from your hard drive, and see if the XP CD boots then? Is your CD drive jumper set as master or CS?

i removed my IDE1 HD cable and power cable. My DVD-ROM Drive is at master IDE2. Same problem persisting. Same messages.

So, i tried putting my drive on IDE1 Master. This time also with no HD connected. Same problems.

okay, i am one hundred percent sure that every cable is on correctly. with the jumpers correct as well.

i've been booting with my DVD-ROM Drive as the only enabled boot device. Doesn't read my OS disc that i know works. Does this mean my DVD-ROM Drive is bad?

i don't get the message anymore. I only get:

Veryfying DMI Pool Data ........
Boot from CD: _
DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

I'm thinking...I might need to partition this drive. Someone please confirm.

This drive is new, never used, and never paritioned. I know my BIOS recognizes it, even the size, but will I need to partition it still?

Oh so many questions. Sorry
