Hi gourmand

You have a trojan problem that should be removed before we get on to the rest of your log.

Disable system restore by right clicking on the My Computer icon on your desktop and going to Properties. Go to the System Restore tab and put a tick in the box for "Disable System Restore on all drives". It should be re-enabled when you are cleaned up.

Do an online virus scan here http://www.pandasoft...n_principal.htm
Make sure autoclean and heuristics are checked
Let it clean whatever it finds.
Save the report.

Download the free trial version of the Cleaner from here: http://www.moosoft.com

Install, update and run a full system scan and select to fix what it finds. Reboot if asked to.

Do a fresh HijackThis log and post into this thread so we can have a better look.

hi ilago
thanks for your help I really appreciate it.

I did the moosoft thing (using their latest update) and it found nothing.

now, like the moron I am, I played with the computer and now I cannot use IE ( I use netscape) so I cannot do the scan at the pandasoftware. I tried to install IE sp1 but it didn't let me and I cannot remove it using the control panel, and I have already SP2 and I don;t know how to install it again (all the automatic update @#$%)..

here is the current HIjackthis log

Hi gourmand

Internet Explorer is usually repairable. This page will probably help.

http://support.micro...spx?kbid=318378

It might be an idea to leave the repair of that until some of this spyware is cleaned up.

I'll post back on that as soon as I can unless someone else does before me.

Hi gourmand

You're not having a very good time are you? You might like to print these instructions out or copy them into Notepad so you can see them while you are off the internet and working in Safe Mode.

Please disable System Restore by Right Clicking the My Computer icon on the desktop and going to the System Restore tab. Put a tick in the "Turn off System Restore on all drives" box. You will lose all your previous restore points, but it will stop removed spyware from being reloaded.

Please download CWShredder from here http://www.geekstogo...tion=show&id=17 Put it in its own folder somewhere convenient. We'll use it shortly.

Open HijackThis and click on System Scan. When the scan is complete check all the following items. Then disconnect from the internet and close all open windows including this browser window and click on Fix checked.

Reboot into Safe Mode by tapping F8 as soon as your computer starts to boots up (beep). When the Windows XP Safe Mode menu comes up - Choose Safe Mode. You don't need any networking and Windows XP as your operating system.

Run CWShredder at least twice and let it fix all it finds. If it asks you to reboot - reboot into Safe Mode again.

Open Windows Explorer and go to >Tools>Folder Options>View, select:

Show hidden files and folders
Display the contents of system folders

Uncheck:

Hide protected operating system files

Set search options
Next go to Search > All files and folders > More advanced options and click.

Be sure the first three boxes are selected:

Search System folders
Search Hidden Files and folders
Search SubFolders

Delete all the files and folders noted in bold below. Some may not be there but use the search function in Windows Explorer to make sure.

C:\WINDOWS\System32\mspdnx.dll - Important to delete this file

eplrr.dll - you will need to search for this file - but it is likely that it is in c:\Windows or c:\windows\system32 folders. It is most important that this file is deleted as well.

C:\WINDOWS\UpdReg.EXE - delete file
C:\WINDOWS\ nsdb\hosts-delete entire folder
C:\Program Files\ Visual Networks\Visual IP InSight\Sympatico Consumer\IPClient.exe delete entire folder
C:\Program Files\ Visual Networks\Visual IP InSight\Sympatico Consumer\IPMon32.exe delete entire folder

Reboot into normal mode.

As it is likely that your existing hosts file is damaged or deleted, download Hoster from here http://members.aol.c...dbee/hoster.zip. Unzip to a convenient location and run the file - It will replace the hosts file with a blank default one.

Run a fresh HijackThis log and post. There may be more to do.

hi ilago

I cannot thank you enough for your help.
as I said, like the genius I am, I messed with the computer too much and too many programs just won't load ( not just the internet explorer) ;) . what I did is that I renamed a file named services.exe (while I meant to rename a file named sectors), the computer didn't boot so I went to my friend and I changed it from his computer. so now the computer is acting strangely  . I think that, since I already backed up my important files, I'll just re-install windows :tazz: .

if we lived in more ancient days I'd probably sacrifice a small animal in your name or offer you my sister  , but since we don't I hope that my sincerest thanks would suffice.
(come to think of that - if we lived in those days there wouldn't be any computers...)

thankfuly yours
gourmand.

Thanks for letting me know.

Windows doesn't like the system files being tampered with - as you've found out!!

Don't forget to include some adequate spyware protection on the new installation - ask here for advice :tazz:
