I was talking to a mother at the local shopping strip, and was told her 12 year old daughter is pregnant.
However, I'm not thinking of the 12 year old girl, I'm trying to work out who is worse. The mother of the 12 yo. or the 30 year old man who got her pregnant......

That's a good point, the parents probably have some blame there as well. I'm in highschool, and in Planning the teacher gave us statistics that over 52% of kids in Canada leave highschool having sex before. I thought it was quite interesting, knowing that 48% are still virgins, because I thought there was way less, seeing all those grinding at dances, people hugging here and there in hallways, etc... it's kinda annoying just walking to a class and seeing someone kissing in the hallway, blocking the road. Not that there's anything wrong with kissing, but doing so blocking the hallway?
I do feel people my age are rushing things. I'm not so into those things, because i'm still in school, I think education is more imporrtant at this time in my life.

I'm just graduating from highschool and from Canada as well
I don't think it's as bad outside of of Canada or North America as a whole I whole I guess I should say, we have had exchange students come and ask what the heck we are doing at dances.

I completely agree that people are rushing things, most notably they are getting to close at to young of an age (lets keep this discussion away from sex please). I knew someone that had two kids before she was 18 and her 30 year old mother had a kid in between this state. imagine living under those conditions. I'm not sure about you guys, but I don't feel sorry for anyone but the kid being born. The only person that should be punished are the people that took these stupid actions at such a young age, but sadly it is the kid being born that ultimately pays the price.

People in highschool are progressing "relationships" at to quick of a pace for sure, but it seems as if its encouraged more and more as parents want to see their kids dating someone after a certain age. The problem, people get curious like they do with drugs and alcohol and dig themselves a hole deeper then what the can climb out of. People need to educated more and punishments more severe. There is absolutely no need what so ever for a kid under the age of 18 to have a child.
It puts an added strain on the family, the mother, the father and of course the child that will grow up with nothing. People aren't able to finish their high school education, increasing drop outs around the nation and world.
Education is key to healthy living, a strong economy and a brighter future. Without it, everyone is worse off.

P.S. How did this topic get brought back :whistling: It's a year old.

i do strongly feel that kids are monstrous these days compared to when i was growing up. they cuss, they're selfish, they mistreat adults & their peers, their body language= their cussing.

Let's not generalize quite so much. I took offense to that comment. My kids are NOT monstrous. Neither of them curse, including my 18 year old who legally CAN curse if she chooses to. Neither of them are selfish. Quite the opposite is true. Both have dedicated MANY many hours in their lives already to helping others, either directly or by raising money. I know MANY kids this way.

It's sad that the ones who ARE bad overshadow the GOOD kids in this world.

Actually, I took offense to that comment too. Please don't generalize like that. I'm not mistreating adults and I certainly don't curse except with my friends --- never to my parents or someone else who doesn't like it, I respect it.

I do know other youngsters who are like that but for that there's no one to blame than the parents. I have a friend who's parents have always raised their kids with shouting and blaming them about everything. If my parents always shouted about every thing I screw up; I would just end up shouting and cussing at them because then they just downgrade to the same level as kids are, which leads to the point where they get no respect from their kids.

I can see that so clearly, hearing what my friend and his parents always fight about.

Because of that I also don't like the way you said it Kat; that there are bad kids who overshadow good kids. There are problems in the world and nobodys perfect but no one can blame only the kid him/herself.

About the other things. I've had a cellphone for few years now. Never seen that as a problem either. Only those who actually spend 10s, even hundreds of euros to it are a problem; of course parents can put limitations to the cellphone subscription by the service provider, which is good, I have never needed those though. :whistling:

I'm 15 myself and don't see myself as one of those kids growing up too fast, more often it's my sister who resembles the people being talked about in this thread. She listens to rap and hip-hop on the radio, dances around the house, wants for nothing in her life except for a cell phone, disrespects our parents enough that its painful for me, and she's 10. The scary thing is that she's not atypical, because this is what her friends as well. She's just being like them. In large part I think it's due to the images that kids are bombarded with from very early ages about what life should be - on TV, on the radio, at school, everywhere. Kids don't have as many role models of the "good kids" who are respectful to those around them, the people they look up to are the ones giving them this image of what a person is supposed to be (a text messaging, sexy, giggling, disrespectful human being in the case of my sister). It shouldn't have to happen that way.

These are all signs of which way our society/culture is heading. Our leaders have the power to change this situation, unfortunately our culture revolves around the all mighty dollar and it has alot to do with the way our world evolves. These children are products of this culture. We now live in a world with the majority of both parents having to work to make ends meet. So instead of the parents being the major influence in their lives, we have people like Paris Hilton, and Lindsay Lohan, and everything else out there. Don't judge the children, it's not their fault. Monkey see monkey do....

Personally i think the occasional [bleep] kicking/spanking is all kids need. It worked for generation after generation including me(not old but old fashioned dad) and to be honest it didn't do me any harm.

Kids need Discipline, allot of the time they themselves crave it, we get allot of kids wanting to join the cadets that are like that kids that know that it would be good for them and want to change, ive been teaching kids like that for a few years now and its always heartening to see.

I believe that most working parents are usually to tired after a days work to properly interact with, and help influence their childs developement. I was also spanked as a child, and when I look back, believe that it did no harm and was sometimes justified. But you skate on thin ice with todays laws about how to reprimand your child. You could be charged with child abuse. And previous generations did not have to deal with what we deal with today.
