Thanks for the help. My HiJackThis log is posted below. I've also run through all of the steps listed on the "first time here page" including the Trojan Hunter. I currently scan clean with my virus protection (AVG), with online virus scan and with SpySweeper, but I know that the file will be back tomorrow morning.

Hi bflippo,

You are running Hijackthis from a temporary file, but Hijackthis should be in a permanent folder to save its backups in case we need to undo any changes. Please delete the one you currently have.
  • Download HijackThis again by clicking here, but don’t hit “Open”, but “Save as”. Then navigate to your desktop, and hit “Save”. After downloading, minimize all windows until you’re on your desktop.
  • Now double-click on the zip file containing the HijackThis.exe file. Select the HijackThis.exe, and hit the combination “Ctrl + C”.
  • Minimize the zipfolder, and go to My Computer. Double-click on C:/.
  • In the menu bar you’ll find “File”. Click it, then choose “New”, and then “Folder”.
  • Call this folder HijackThis. Double-click to open this - new - folder.
  • Now use the combination “Ctrl + V” to paste the HijackThis.exe into this folder. Now double-click on the HijackThis.exe in the folder you’ve just created and please post a new log.

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.sub.../Fixwareout.exe
http://swandog46.gee.../Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

When your system reboots, follow the prompts. Afterwards, HijackThis will launch. Please click Scan, and check the following items:

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{1B73175A-CF7D-4E9D-899E-3666FCC60B13}: NameServer = 85.255.113.107,85.255.112.21
O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\..\{1B73175A-CF7D-4E9D-899E-3666FCC60B13}: NameServer = 85.255.113.107,85.255.112.21
O17 - HKLM\System\CS2\Services\Tcpip\..\{1B73175A-CF7D-4E9D-899E-3666FCC60B13}: NameServer = 85.255.113.107,85.255.112.21

Click Fix Checked. Close HijackThis, and click OK to proceed.

At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.

After restart, if you have any connection problems, do this:

Please go to Start -> Control Panel, and choose Network Connections. Then right click on your default connection, usually Local Area Connection or Dial-up Connection if you are using Dial-up, and left click on properties. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio button that says Obtain DNS servers automatically. Click OK twice, and restart your computer.

Finally, please post the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt, along with a new HijackThis log.

First, download and install CleanUp! but do not run it yet.
*NOTE* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups.

Please download Ewido Security Suite (do NOT run it yet!)
  • Install ewido security suite
  • Launch ewido, there should be a big E icon on your desktop, double-click it.
  • The program will prompt you to update click the OK button
  • The program will now go to the main screen
  • You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Click on Start
  • The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed
  • After the updates are installed, exit Ewido
Reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode, then hit enter.

Once in Safe Mode:

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
  • Empty Recycle Bins
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Prefetch files
  • Cleanup! All Users
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

If Cleanup! asks if you want to reboot, click NO

Open Ewido
  • Click on scanner
  • Click Complete System Scan
  • Let the program scan the machine
While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean the first infected file it finds. Choose "remove", then put a check next to "Perform action on all infections" in the left corner of the box so you don't have to sit and watch Ewido the whole time. Click OK.

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report
  • Save the report to your desktop
  • Exit Ewido
Reboot back to normal mode. Next,

1)Please RIGHT-CLICK HERE to download Silent Runner's.
  • Save it to the desktop.
  • Run Silent Runner's by doubleclicking the "Silent Runners" icon on your desktop.
  • You will receive a prompt:
    • Do you want to skip supplementary searches?
      click NO
  • You will see a text file appear on the desktop - it's not done, let it run (it won't appear to be doing anything!)
  • Once you receive the prompt All Done!, open the text file on the desktop, copy that entire log, and paste it here.
*NOTE* If you receive any warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.

2)Download F-Secure Blacklight (blbeta.exe) to your desktop.
- Double click on blbeta.exe to run the program. Accept the user agreement.
- Leave "Scan through windows explorer" checked.
- Click Scan.
After the scan finishes, click on Next, then Exit.

BlackLight will create a log on your desktop with the name "fsbl-xxxxxxx.log". Please post that log.

3)Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner

Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
    Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:
    Scan Archives
    Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer
  • This program will start and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
    • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.
So, in your next reply please post the logs from these programs:
  • Ewido
  • Silentrunners
  • Blacklight
  • Kaspersky

Ewido found and deleted a few trojans..everything looks good and clean..

Are you still getting that file flagged? I didn't see any detections of that file in any of the scans..

I've given it a couple of days to resurface, so far nothing. I scanned clean this morning with my AVG. Everything looks quiet.

What about the four infected files that Kaspersky found? I've attached them below. Should I and can I remove those system restore files?

Infected Object Name - Virus Name
C:\System Volume Information\_restore{6CB7DFCB-7172-4E84-AB72-470B037B42A1}\RP66\A0009332.exe Infected: Trojan-Downloader.Win32.Agent.uj
C:\System Volume Information\_restore{6CB7DFCB-7172-4E84-AB72-470B037B42A1}\RP66\A0009333.exe Infected: Trojan.Win32.Favadd.an
C:\System Volume Information\_restore{6CB7DFCB-7172-4E84-AB72-470B037B42A1}\RP66\A0009334.exe Infected: not-a-virus:AdWare.Win32.Msnagent.b
C:\System Volume Information\_restore{6CB7DFCB-7172-4E84-AB72-470B037B42A1}\RP66\A0009335.exe Infected: Trojan.Win32.Qhost.ec

That was the next step :tazz:

Now let's reset your restore points.

1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Please take the following into consideration to maintain a clean computer.

Now you should go get a firewall. Don't rely on the Windows firewall as it monitors only incoming traffic. Pick one of these, they are all free.
Kerio
Zonealarm
Sygate

I'll also recommend you to install a monitoring software which will monitor certain areas on your computer and will place alerts when those are being modified. One such software I'll recommend is Prevx, but it's for advanced users as the messages it displays can be hard to decipher. One other similar but more user friendly software is Winpatrol. Both are free programs.

Winpatrol
Prevx

Visit Windows Update regularly to get the latest security updates. You can also enable automatic updates.Your antivirus software and antispyware programs should also be updated regularly. Make a habit of running scans on a timely basis. Be careful about what you download, scan every file before clicking on it.

Additional programs to consider:

Spywareblaster Prevents the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted software.Blocks spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.Restricts the actions of potentially unwanted sites in Internet Explorer.
Spywareguard An anti-virus program scans files before you open them and prevents execution if a virus is detected - SpywareGuard does the same thing, but for spyware!
IE/Spyad
Adds a list of malicious sites to your Restricted Sites Zone.
Firefox An alternate browser safer than IE

A good article to read:
So how did I get infected in the first place?

Regards,

Armodeluxe
