Hello, I'm back!

I need help removing WinFixer from my system. This is the second time in about two weeks. Who are these people? Am I doing something wrong? Am I missing something?

I run all the following or have them installed for protection:
Ad-aware, Spybot, Ewido, Cleanup, ActiveScan, McAfee virusscan, McAfee Spamkiller, McAfee Firewall, McAfee Antispyware, System Mechanic Spython, Windows XP Firewall, Windows XP antispyware, pop-up stoppers, etc.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

• Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
• This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
• After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
• Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
• You will first be presented with a warning.

  This will be the vundo filename spelt backwards. for example if the vundo dll was vundo.dll you would have the user enter odnuv.*
• Press Enter to continue with the fix.

I have downloaded VundoFix.exe, double clicked it and created VundoFix on desktop, in VundoFix folder is another folder, VundoFix, inside this VundoFix folder are the icons (readme.txt, killvundo.bat, process.exe, vundo.reg).

Rebooted to safe mode, had to go to START, WINDOWS EXPLORER (so I could find the desktop folder vundofix), opened 1st vundofix folder, opened 2nd vundofix folder, doubleclicked on KILLVUNDO.BAT, the message "Vundofix V2 by Atri By using Vundofix you agree that you are doing at your own risk Press enter to continue ..." appears. I hit ENTER ONE (1) time, system hangs.

Rebooted again tried the above again .... this time system hangs, pressed enter again got message that "there is a missing file that Vundofix needs is missing, please download again and re-install VundoFix. Did as instructed, the system hangs. Repeated four times, still the system hangs and I am unable to get KILLVUNDO.BAT to run.

Does it make a diffence that VundoFix (killvundo.bat) was run on this system about a week ago when I was instructed how to get rid of WinFixer the first time?

Please download WebRoot SpySweeper from HERE (It's a 2 week trial):

• Click the Free Trial link on the right - next to "SpySweeper for Home Computers" to download the program.
• Double-click the file to install it as follows:
  • Click "Next", read the agreement, Click "Next"
  • Choose "Custom" click "Next".
  • Leave the default installation directory as it is, then click "Next".
  • UNcheck "Run SpySweeper at Windows Startup" and "Add Sweep for Spyware to Windows Explorer Context Menu". Click "Next".
  • On the following screen you can leave the e-mail address field blank, if you wish. Click "Next".
  • Finally, click "Install"
• Once the program is installed, it will open.
• It will prompt you to update to the latest definitions, click Yes.
• Once the definitions are installed, click Options on the left side.
• Click the Sweep Options tab.
• Under What to Sweep please put a check next to the following:
  • Sweep Memory
  • Sweep Registry
  • Sweep Cookies
  • Sweep All User Accounts
  • Enable Direct Disk Sweeping
  • Sweep Contents of Compressed Files
  • Sweep for Rootkits
  • Please UNCHECK Do not Sweep System Restore Folder.
• Click Sweep Now on the left side.
• Click the Start button.
• When it's done scanning, click the Next button.
• Make sure everything has a check next to it, then click the Next button.
• It will remove all of the items found.
• Click Session Log in the upper right corner, copy everything in that window.
• Click the Summary tab and click Finish.

• This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.

I was just looking around (I know how to look but not touch), and I found a lot of entries in the Windows Registry for VIRTUMONDE, VIRTUMONDO, GEBYW.DLL, VTUTQ.DLL, PMKHI.DLL. I didn't find any of these files using the SEARCH utility. All these files have been found by McAfee but McAfee has been unable to remove/clean them or stop them from getting on my computer.

I hope I haven't over stepped my boundry but I thought you would like to know hat I found. If I have done somethimg I shouldn't please let me know.

It appears the VundoFix didnt work!

Hopefully your edition of SpySweeper is Still active!

Update the SpySweeper program with the latest definitions and then configure as listed below.


Please download WebRoot SpySweeper from HERE (It's a 2 week trial):

• Click the Free Trial link under to "SpySweeper" to download the program.
• Install it. Once the program is installed, it will open.
• It will prompt you to update to the latest definitions, click Yes.
• Once the definitions are installed, click Options on the left side.
• Click the Sweep Options tab.
• Under What to Sweep please put a check next to the following:
  • Sweep Memory
  • Sweep Registry
  • Sweep Cookies
  • Sweep All User Accounts
  • Enable Direct Disk Sweeping
  • Sweep Contents of Compressed Files
  • Sweep for Rootkits
  • Please UNCHECK Do not Sweep System Restore Folder.
• Click Sweep Now on the left side.
• Click the Start button.
• When it's done scanning, click the Next button.
• Make sure everything has a check next to it, then click the Next button.
• It will remove all of the items found.
• Click Session Log in the upper right corner, copy everything in that window.
• Click the Summary tab and click Finish.
• Paste the contents of the session log you copied into your next reply.

Dont mind all the other stuff,just use the Sweep Configuration settings and Scan the System.

Post the contents of the Session log in the next reply please.

How long have you had SpySweeper on the PC?

The latest version of SpySweeper,updated with the latest definitions should take care of all those reg entries!

Either way,the intial infection appears gone!

Can you give me specifics about the entries you have left in the Registry!

SpySweeper appears to have found some Conhook entries which goes hand in hand with Vundo sometimes!

Here is a intensive Registry Cleaner I use.


Last lets get a hefty Reg Cleaner and move out all dead registry entries!

Once downloaded and launched,Click Yes to Update the Cache-> Click "Registry Cleaner"-> Click "Aggresive" and "Start"-> Fix everything it finds-> Name the Backup it creates and Save it somewhere safe!

RegSpreme Pro

A total of 2,8xx problems were found.

RegSupreme Pro fixed about 180 discrepancies and removed/deleted about 2.5xx discrepancies to
repair the registry.

OK,well obviously you know your way arouns the registry pretty good!

Any reference to any of these can be safely removed manually.

MLJGH.DLL
VTUTQ.DLL
GEBYW.DLL
PMKHI.DLL
VIRTUMUNDE
VIRTUMONDO

If you have any reservations about removing them,just create a folder on the desktop,export each Key from the registry to the new folder,then delete the actual registry key itself.


Once you have restarted a few times and no problems appear,you can delete the new folder.
