Hi vex2,

Sorry to keep you hanging mate.
A lot is going on in my private life and you are one of the few I have still running.
Trust me it is annoying me as much as it is you.

I have no idea in what state your computer is now.
Can you show me a fresh HijackThis log and a short recap of the current problems?

Regards,

Pieter

I should have mentioned, there is a new version of HijackThis out and I'd like a log made with that.

Pieter

Ah no worries mate. Basically my PC now starts with the "Desktop Recovery" option everytime so i have to keep setting it back to the Active Desktop. You told me to install SP2 to get it back and I did but then it buggered up the system and i could only access my desktop properly in safe mode. So I've restored my PC to the previous point and i need to sort out this Desktop recovery and alsp another problem considering the internet....I can't visit a lot of websites including every search engine and also i can't get into hotmail, i always end up on "Page Cannot Be Displayed" and this again is really annoying me and stopping me from carrying out research and sending work over via email. Sometimes i also get a message that "WMI" is not responding and i have to click it several times to end task, even tho i do not know what it is. Thanks for the help so far, I'd be even more greatful if you can help me with this considering your current circumstances with your personal life. Thanks a lot.

Let's start with the pages you can't visit.

First download and install CWShredder from here:
http://www.intermute...r_download.html
Run it by using the Fix button.

Then find the file called C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC\hosts
Rename it to hosts.bak
If that solves it you can download a new hostsfile here:
http://www.mvps.org/...p2002/hosts.htm

Then the WMI problem.

Click Start > Run > services.msc > OK
The services window will open.
Check if both Windows Management Instrumentation and Windows Management Instrumentation Driver Extensions are set to Automatic or Manual
If not set them both to at least Manual.

I'll have to do some more research on the Desktop recovery, since we tried everything I know of to resolve that.

Let's see how far the above gets us.

Regards,

Pieter

I'm having the same problem with my computer, Norton notified me of this same virus but yet i have no idea to delete it. Also my norton does eveything except scans for viruses. I've tried to reinstall the program but i think there's something that's keeping it from running properly.

Another thing i downloaded HijackThis and this is my log.

Please do not post your logs in someone else's thread. Start a new thread by clicking on New Topic. Do not post your problems into other open logs saying "I have the same issue, here is my log" etc. This is too confusing for everyone involved.

Welcome to Geeks to Go rj58. Please start a new topic. :tazz:
