Hi

For the last few days virtually all of my applications have been forced to shut down shortly after they start up, sometimes even before they've even loaded. This happens about 90% of the time, and there seems to be no discernible pattern. This is often followed by a complete Windows crash (I've restarted my computer countless times over the last few days). This is most prevalent with all of my internet browsers, Thunderbird, Office, and even Windows Explorer (though Winamp is oddly unaffected). And today, I developed new problems. Kerio Personal Firewall seems to have forgotten all the permissions I'd given it, and bizarrely, search and text boxes within web pages won't accept any text when the page is loaded in IE.

I already had AVG Free, and updates continued to download each day, but nothing was picked up. Oddly, it told me there were 3 new updates yesterday, but didn't seem to download a single byte, even though AVG then said that each update was completed.

I tried some other antivirus programs, such as Norton, Avast, and Antivir, but they inexplicably couldn't be installed. Various errors would pop up each time I tried to install them, such as corrupted files or problems with .dll files (a problem I'm also told about sometimes when Thunderbird and Opera forcibly close), either before the installation was complete or when the program was first opened. I would usually be told to download the .exe again, but this never solved the problem. I uninstalled AVG Free just in case and tried again, but this made no difference.

I've run through the instructions on your Read This First thread, but similar problems arose. I'd already run Adaware (it found 2 objects, but made no difference), and CWShredder didn't detect anything. Spybot and TrojanHunter had similar problems to the other antivirus software, and while Trend Housecall managed to start its scan, the process managed to crash my computer in truly epic fashion (other online antivirus scanners also refused to work). And because I'm running Windows ME (unfortunately), I couldn't use Ewido or check for Windows updates.

I'd really appreciate any help you guys could give me. My HJT log is below.

Cheers,

Jack
