I am running Windows XP Version 2002 SP2 on a Pentium M and have a serious virus/trojan problem:

SYMPTOM 1: Internet Explorer (version 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519)
1) Although home page is set correctly (www.yahoo.com), whenever I launch Internet Explorer the URL is changed to: http://www.warningmessage.com/ which is an ad for a website that announces “WARNING! Spyware detected.” And tries to sell PS Guard and Spy Trooper
2) when I do redirect the browser to other websites, it frequently quits the application
3) [bleep] (dating) and gambling web sites pop-up with some frequency
4) My PopThis! Option control on Internet Explorer won’t work
5) Although I can surf other webpages by typing the URL in as the address, whenever I type my home page address (www.yahoo.com), I end up on the www.warningmessage.com page

SYMPTOM 2: A dialogue box frequently opens in the lower right hand corner Windows toolbar to read

“Urgent System Message: Virus!

Your computer is infected with last version of internet Trojan (worm_attck_V122.02a). It is highly recommended that you install antivirus software.
Click the icon for more information.”

SYMPTOM 3:
A warning dialogue box spontaneously opens, and reads:
“Please read this message carefully. Your PC is infected by Spyware. Spyware and other unwanted software refers to programs that perform certain tasks on your computer, typically without your consent. This can include installing pop-up advertising or collecting your personal information. Anti-spyware tools can only help rid your computer of spyware. Click “OK” to get software and special offers on antivirus software.”

So…..I have
deleted temporary files
scanned with (updated) AVG anti-virus free edition– no viruses
scanned with (updated) Spybot Search & Destroy and fixed “Smitfraud-C”
scanned with (updated) Ad-Aware SE personal, which continues to identify (and I continue to remove) “Malware.Psguard” This same malware is identified every time I reboot
scanned with Ewido Security Suite 3.5, which identified (and removed) 23 infected objects.

I rebooted after this scans, but the symptoms persists. Here is the HijackThis log after the reboot (also copied into MS Word and included as an attachment ):

Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1
