Hi bengaluru
Welcome to GeeksToGo! I will be helping you in cleaning up your computer!

Please print out these directions for use of/when you cannot access this page.

One thing I need you to do first is to place HiJackThis into a permanent folder. The reason for this is so that when HJT makes backups, they will be stored in a safe place.
*Go to Start > My Computer > and double click on C:.
* Now right click an open area and click New > folder and change the folder name to HJT.
* Extract HijackThis from the zipped file into this new folder.

You have a number or viruses/trojans on your machine. Let's start by running a virus scan.

Please run the Housecall online virus scan located at:
http://housecall.tre.../start_corp.asp
Follow the prompts to scan your hard drive for viruses. Select the "Autoclean" option so that Housecall will remove any viruses from your system.
When the scan is finished, please restart your computer.

Then, please rescan with HJT and post a new log.

Welcome back!

Alrighty, let's get rolling!

Please print out these directions for use if/when you cannot access this page.

Please open HJT and place a check next to the following items:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UwPPpiaJt] C:\BUABQ.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [htt54h1n] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\htt54h1n.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [System Redirect] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SYSBHO.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [1TLOA5] "C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\CXTPLS_LOADER.EXE" /PC=CP.IST2 /SHUN /UNAR="/CTUN"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [o38V36T] CVTANNEL.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SurfAccuracy] C:\Program Files\SurfAccuracy\SAcc.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IST Service] \ISTsvc\istsvc.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Z0r9RWf7g] CQPOREC.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [System Helper] syshlp.exe

Then, make sure all browser windows and other applications are closed, then click the Fix Checked button.

Boot into Safe Mode:
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Once in safe mode, find and delete the following files/folders, if present:

C:\BUABQ.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\htt54h1n.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SYSBHO.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\CXTPLS_LOADER.EXE
C:\Program Files\SurfAccuracy\ (folder)
C:\PROGRAM FILES\ISTSVC\ (folder)
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SYSHLP.EXE

Then, using the search tool under the start menu, search for, and delete the following files:
CVTANNEL.EXE
CQPOREC.EXE

Finally, reboot your computer normally, and post a fresh HJT log for check.

It appears that athough I deleted them, it has appeared in the new log. One problem I had was that I could not get the system into Safe Mode. Although I tapped F8 and got the options of Safe Mode and when I selected that and pressed Enter, it started in the normal mode. I know that the fonts are normally big in the Safe mode and not many options are available. But my system opened normally.

Secondly, I have two OS running on my system - 98 and Windows 2000, but it is the 98 which was causing all problems. As you can see from the log the website which was taking over my Homepage has appeared again.

I am Lost. Please help me. And I thank you for the all help ----you are amazing.

Welcome back.

Once again, please print out these directions for use if/when you do not have access to this page.

Please download the Killbox.
Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.

Scan with HJT, and place a check next to the following items:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = http://win-eto.com/sp.htm?id=33464
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://win-eto.com/sp.htm?id=33464
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://win-eto.com/sp.htm?id=33464
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://win-eto.com/hp.htm?id=33464
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://win-eto.com/sp.htm?id=33464
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://win-eto.com/sp.htm?id=33464
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [System Helper] syshlp.exe

Then, make sure all other windows are closed, and click the Fix Checked button.

Please run Killbox.

Select "Delete on Reboot".

Copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SYSHLP.EXE

Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again..

Let the system reboot, then rescan with HJT and post a new log.

Hi bengaluru! Things are looking good! :tazz: Just one more thing to fix in HJT.

Please open HJT and place a check next to the following item:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AutoUpdater] "c:\Program Files\AutoUpdate\AutoUpdate.exe"

Then, make sure all other windows are closed, and click the Fix Checked button.

Next, find and delete the following folder:
c:\Program Files\AutoUpdate\

Then please reboot, rescan with HJT, and post a fresh log. If you are clean after this, I will have some comments for you.

Congrats! Your log is clean! :tazz:

The following is a list of tools and utilities that I like to suggest to people. This list is full of great tools and utilities to help you understand how you got infected and how to keep from getting infected again.
  • Spybot Search & Destroy - Uber powerful tool which can search and annhilate nasties that make it onto your system. Now with an Immunize section that will help prevent future infections.
  • AdAware - Another very powerful tool which searches and kills nasties that infect your system. AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy compliment each other very well.
  • SpywareBlaster - Great prevention tool to keep malware from installing on your system.
  • SpywareGuard - Works as a Spyware "Shield" to protect your computer from getting malware in the first place.
  • IE-SpyAd - puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
  • CleanUP! - Cleans temporary files from IE and Windows, empties the recycle bin and more. Great tool to help speed up your computer and knock out those nasties that like to reside in the temp folders.
  • Windows Updates - It is very important to make sure that both Internet Explorer and Windows are kept current with the latest critical security patches from Microsoft. To do this just start Internet Explorer and select Tools > Windows Update, and follow the online instructions from there.
  • Google Toolbar - Free google toolbar that allows you to use the powerful Google search engine from the bar, but also blocks pop up windows.
To find out more information about how you got infected in the first place and some great guidelines to follow to prevent future infections you can read this article by Tony Klein
