Hello again. After much investigation, (and remarkable patience) CoachWife6 has declared my system Malware free. However, I am STILL unable to download windows updates............HELP!!!!!

Good news from Malware...I think...

Click Start, then Run, type regsvr32 Dispex.dll in the Open box, and then click "Ok".

If this operation is successful, you will receive the following message:
DllRegisterServer in Dispex.dll succeeded.

Restart the computer and try to connect to the Windows Update site and see if you can install updates. Let me know how it goes.

When following your instructions, I receive the message: "Cannot find regsrvr32 (or one of its components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are available"

This will rebuild rather than restore the registry and also replace missing or corrupt system files

Boot the PC and keep tapping F8 right after the beep until you get options, select command prompt only, type scanreg.exe /fix then press enter, it will run through a few screens then say registry repaired. Press enter then press ctrl + alt + delete keys together to reboot.

When Windows has loaded, click start, all programmes, accessories, system tools, system information, tools then run system file checker and replace any files it asks for from the 98SE CD then reboot.

When it has loaded to the desktop, click start, programmes accessories, system tools to run disc clean up, then run disc defragmenter from system tools

Click start then run, type prefetch then press enter, click edit then select all, right click any file then click delete, confirm delete.

Run Tune Up disc clean up then registry clean up then click optimize to run reg defrag, which needs a reboot

Those will have cleared the drive of obsolete software errors

After the reboot, click optimize then system optimizer to optimize the computer, select computer with an internet connection (without an internet connection if applicable) from the drop down menu, this also requires a reboot

(Skip this if you do not connect to the internet with this PC) After the reboot, click optimize then system optimizer to accelerate downloads, select the speed just above your actual connection speed, this requires a reboot.

After the reboot, click optimize then system optimizer to run system advisor

Okay, I followed the steps above. On the first run, at 70% of the final step I got the message:
Registry Repair Results

Windows found an error in your system files and was uanble to fix the problem. Try deleting some files to free up disk space on your Windows drive. If that doesn't work then you will need to install windows to a new directory.

I deleted a few large files, re-ran and got to 71% before receiving the same message. Any thoughts???

Defrag will not run....I think I have run all your suggestions for tune-up. The "prefetch" step seems to be not working, the system file checker found no corrupt files as far as I can tell. Windows update is still inoperative. I an now downloading the file you provided the link to (majorgeeks).
