i just got call of duty 2 and a prompt comes up when i try to play the game stating that the video driver does not support alpha blending.

Any advice. This is a fairly new computer Dell 4600 and plays all other games of this type fine (brothers in arms 1 and 2) (medal of honor pacific assault)

Hello agross and welcome to Geeks 2 Go!

Your Dell Dimension 4600 used to ship with either a ATI Radeon 9800pro graphics card or the standard Intel onboard graphics. If you have the ATI Radeon 9800pro then make sure your drivers are up to date.
If your using the Intel onboard graphics then you need to seriously buy a graphics card because onboard graphics is simply too weedy to run the latest games.

You can update your drivers by downloading them from the ATI website.

Do this to find out what card you have:

Start - Type dxdiag in the box - Choose the display tab - This will detail your card etc

he already stated he has an ati 9800 video card. still a decent card by the way. have you gone to https://support.ati....ge&folderID=293

I recomend that you download the non catylist control center driver (as in the one that doesn't include ccc).

wierd. not sure what to say, found one place that specifically talked about blending: Supports 8-bit alpha blending and video keying for effective overlay of video and graphics and that was from ati.

I'll look into more later today if I have time.

confirmed again and again that the card does support alpha blending. Understand that alpha blending is something related to direct x 9. Lets make sure your uptodate on our direct x.

Also did you try using driver cleaner when you installed the latest drivers, its a good idea to clear out all the remnants of the old drivers. But alpha blending is something thats used quite alot now, windows uses it if you enable it and most media player visualisers also use it. And the fact that the card definately supports it would to me indicate it might be just one of the bugs that appear in new games. Its quite a puzzler the 9800 is a fairly common card though so you would expect the problem to be mentioned a fair bit by now.
