Please help me get rid of these pop ups that keep showing up! I have gone through all of the initial steps that this site has suggested. A day later and they are back! Please help! My hijack this log is as follows:

I found the following information on the file called "PromptCast.exe"

PromptCast.exe - Auto-download for viewing short films and movie trailers for Surveys - Membership to site is required and it 'background'- downloads the needed clips for the survey.

The popups are advertisements for almost anything and everything! From what I can tell, they are mostly from Casava, Venus 123, Zedo, and adchannel I think.

I have been using Surveys.com and its software without problems for a very long time. If at all possible, I would like to keep this software (I don't think it is the cause being that for over 2 years I have had no problems with it). Do you agree?

I am posting a new hijack this log being that my previous one is almost a month old. Hopefully it will help you shed some light on the problem.

I am at your mercy! Please let me know what I need to do next!

Ok, I did what you said, except I did not check off myfau.edu as a trusted site on hijack this (it is my school website). Is that ok? In addition, after I clicked fix checked I got this error message

Installing the Panda program forced me to uninstall my AVG, but it seems that the panda program found a couple of things that AVG didn't. So I assume that was a good move.

I must still have something on my computer, because I noticed when I went to my school website I am getting popups for choosing the right college! Let me know what I need to do. Thanks for all your help, by the way!

Hi, I really don't know what you are doing. I asked you to perform a simple online scan with panda software, not install the whole Panda suite of antivirus software. So you unistalled your free antivirus software (AVG) for a paid version of Panda suite antivirus software that you probably have to pay for. All I wanted you to do was perform a simple online scan of you computer system. When you go to the following link: http://www.pandasoft...n_principal.htm , just click on the "scan your pc" button and proceed from their.

Also, fix that 015 entry (it won't effect getting to that website and it will protect your computer), please, and ignore that error the HijackThis log application give you.

You are probably going to be better protected having downloaded the Panda antivirus + antispyware suite, instead of the free AVG software you had, but be aware now you will have to pay for this software, where previously you did not have to pay for it.

Now with the installation of of the Panda suite of software, it brings up other problems. You now have Microsoft antispyware software and Panda antispyware software installed on your computer and these two antispyware software programs may interfere with each other. I would disable the active, real-time protection on the Microsoft antispyware software and use it as an on-demand scanner. I would leave the Panda antispyware software alone. Another alternative would be to uninstall the Microsoft antispyware software.

Dear danilynne, you did more work than was required of you, please follow the instructions that I give you, let me know if you want to uninstall the Panda Suite of antivirus and antispyware software and revert back to the AVG software you were previously using, or if you want to use the "paid" vesion of the "Panda" software you just downloaded. Let me know what you want to do.

Restart your computer and post a new HijackThis log.

I feel like you are getting annoyed with me. I ran the panda scan, but according to your instructions, you wanted me to delete any viruses it found, which forced me to download the FREE TRIAL version. I chose to delete it being that it only came with one free update and reinstalled AVG. I am still getting the same popups (Adchannel, Venus 123, etc.). You may want to print out these instructions or save them as a text file with "Notepad" to your desktop because we will be restarting into Safe Mode later on in the fix and you might not be able to access the Internet.

1. Prepare Ewido Security Suite for use:

• Download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite.
• Install the Program.
• Click on the "update" button on the left hand side of the window.
• Click on "Start Update".

2. When installing, under 'Additional Options' uncheck:

• Install background guard
• Install scan via context menu

3. You should not run the program yet so Exit the program.
4. Reboot into Safe mode. To reboot in Safe mode:

• Restart your computer and immediately begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard.
• If done right a Windows Advanced Options menu will appear. Select the Safe Mode option and press Enter.

5. Run Ewido Security Suite:

• Open Ewido Security Suite.
• Click on the "scanner" button on the left hand side of the window.
• Click on "Complete System Scan".
• After the scan is completed, save the logfile from the scan.

6. Restart your computer normally to return to normal mode.
7. Prepare in your reply:

• Please post a fresh HijackThis log.
• Please post the Ewido Security Suite log.

In addition, let me know in detail how your computer system is running after performing the above steps.

Ramrbo.
I followed the instructions. When ewido was running in safe mode, I received an error message that a wild tangent file could not be deleted because it was embedded in my documents and setting file (I believe that was the file it stated). It asked if I wanted to delete the entire archive in order to delete the file. I said no (I recognized the file it was embedded in and assumed this was an important file), I hope this was the right thing to do. I am still getting some popups. I would like you to generate a "Add/Remove Software list" log using the HijackThis application. Here is how you can do this:

Restart your computer.

• Open Hijackthis, In the lower right corner click the "Config..." (Configuration) button.
• Once in the "Configuration" panel, click "Misc Tools" button.
• Then click the "Open Uninstall Manager..." button.
• The "Add/Remove Programs Manager" panel should appear.
• In this panel click the "Save list" button.
• Save the "uninstall_list.txt" file to its default location.
• Then copy and paste the notepad text that appears in the generated "unistall_list.txt" file in a reply to this post.

The Bearshare program is the free version. I have had it installed for a long while now without any prior popup problems.

I am not sure what the ContextPlus program is and have no problem uninstalling it.

I have had the Nielson program installed for a while without issue as well, but have not used it in a long while. I have no problem uninstalling it.

OpinionSquare is one of my survey programs. I have also had this installed for many years without issues. I would like to keep this program if possible.

I continue to have popups. Please let me know what steps you would like me to take next.
